"What a day!" A cursed day covered in coffee milk. Even so, the reason I stubbornly wore my "third pair of white pants" and went out.
Good evening, this is Nagimama.
Hello everyone, thank you for your hard work today.
This is sudden, but please listen.
Today, from the morning, I had a day where I was abandoned by "liquids"!
"I feel like going out looking fresh in white pants today♪"
God (and the café au lait) did not grant my modest wish.
Today, I would like to write about my tragedy, my stubbornness, and the salvation that finally arrived.
Tragedy #1: Kindness backfires in the morning
It was breakfast time. I was eating toast with my son, Nagi-kun.
The moment Nagi-kun was about to drop his food, I reflexively reached out, saying, "Oh, watch out!"
That wonderful maternal instinct to protect my son's clothes.
However, the price was far too high.
My hand hit the "coffee milk" I was drinking. Splash.
...Yes, my favorite "white pants (first pair)" were stained brown.
Screaming "Noooo!", I quickly took them off and soaked them in OxiClean.
But I really wanted to wear white today.
Pulling myself together, I took out my "white pants (second pair)" from the closet and changed into them.
Tragedy #2: A catastrophe at the front door
Pulling myself together, it was time to get ready to go out.
I packed my bag, grabbed the hip seat, and put some delicious "café au lait" in a tumbler to accompany me on the drive.
"Okay, let me put the luggage in the car first."
With both hands full, the moment I opened the car door, the tumbler tilted slightly in my hand... and brown liquid dripped from the gap in the lid.
And what was at the landing spot was...
my "white boa outerwear" I just bought
my essential "hip seat"
my "backpack" packed full of stuff
and the "white pants (second pair)" I had just changed into
"...This is the worst!!!!"
You've got to be kidding me? My brand-new boa...! My white pants again...! Facing my white ensemble now covered in cafe au lait, I looked up at the sky.
"What a day!! Today is just one of those days where nothing goes right!!"
Fuming, I went back home for my second round of laundry and bleaching of the day.
I almost decided to give up on going out and just sulk in bed.
The third time's the charm, and a saving smile
But Nagi-kun was waiting, "all ready to go outside."
I also felt that if I stayed cooped up at home, this frustration wouldn't go away.
So, I opened my closet. And what I reached for was...
"White pants (the third pair)."
(How much do I love white!? Learn your lesson, me!!)
Even as I mentally scolded myself, I stubbornly changed and headed out.
As it turned out, I was really glad I went.
When we arrived at the park, Nagi-kun was overjoyed.
He zoomed down the slide and climbed up the fluffy, cloud-like trampoline.
Seeing his sparkling smile, the frustration I felt earlier just melted away.
I was able to do some shopping for myself, and by the time we headed home, I had recovered enough to think, "Ah, I'm happy."
All's well that ends well!
If I had just given up and sulked in bed back then, I think today's memory would have ended as "the day that was the worst because I spilled cafe au lait."
But by stubbornly going out, I was able to overwrite it with "The morning was tough, but it was a good day because my son was smiling.".
On days when something unpleasant happens, how you handle the aftermath is what matters. To keep the day from ending on a bad note, I force myself to overwrite it with "fun plans."
While washing my three pairs of white pants, it was a day where I learned that important lesson. (Though, I think I'll wear black pants for a while starting tomorrow... haha)
