How I Failed 60 Job Interviews and Took the First Step in My Life Through Kindle
My First Kindle Publication, Reached Through Hesitation
My first Kindle publication.
I am not a professional writer,
and as someone who has been balancing full-time work with family and child-rearing,
here is why I decided to publish a book.
It was
a single-minded desire to share my thoughts with someone else who is struggling just like I was.
that drove me.
Full-time Work and Parenting: A Daily Struggle
Until this March,
I had been working full-time since returning to work a year after giving birth.
I balanced my own work while supporting my eldest daughter, who struggled with going to kindergarten and had her own unique needs.
I constantly asked myself,
“Am I doing this right?”
I wanted to rethink how I worked.
But I didn't even have the mental space to think about it.
Whenever my work got busy,
my daughter would immediately fall ill.
While I worried about what to do,
I spent my days unable to break free from the status quo bias.
Discussions and the Security of Saved Money
Amidst all this, I had many discussions with my husband,
and the savings we had built up little by little became our support.
“One person achieves FIRE, the other continues to work”
—that is the lifestyle our family chose, called “Partial FIRE.”
We had been preparing steadily,
for a turning point that might come someday.
Resignation and the Wall of Job Hunting
I actually resigned.
But my job hunting did not go well.
I felt anxious many times.
Even so,
thanks to the dialogue with my family and the money we had saved,
I was able to look forward little by little.
The Moment I Wanted to “Share”
I wanted to deliver this experience
to someone else who is struggling with work, money, and parenting just like I was.
I received many “likes” on my job-hunting articles on note,
and realizing the scale of the response
was what triggered this thought.
Even without a track record as a freelancer,
I decided to publish on Kindle because I wanted to turn what I had written on note into a book.
No Budget, But Reached Publication Through Passion
My earnings as a freelance writer were peanuts...
I couldn't afford to pay for Kindle publishing support.
At that time, what supported me were
the successful “noters” who were far ahead of me.
I registered for Kindle Unlimited
and read the books by these noters extensively.
What was particularly helpful
were the books by Nana and the articles by Your log.
I am truly grateful to both of them!
By reading Nana-san's book,
you will learn how to turn your note articles into a Kindle book.
Furthermore, it explains how to create covers and A+ content using Canva,
as well as tips on how to make your book worth reading, in a way that is easy for beginners to understand.
Yourlog-san posts many methods for creating Kindle books.
The content is so rich that you might wonder, is it really free?
I am very grateful for their help.
For the detailed steps on registering with KDP,
I managed to publish it on my own while consulting with ChatGPT.
For checking typos and omissions and for advice on the content,
my husband and my best friend living far away in Canada lent me a hand.
She was also the first person I told about my resignation.
Thank you for always helping me 😊
With the support and wisdom of others,
my book will finally be released tomorrow.
Finally
I feel a bit uneasy. But I don't know what to do.
I hope this reaches those who are spending their days with such feelings.
In this book,
I have packed the choices and failures that our family actually experienced,
and hints for moving forward positively.
I would be happy if this could be a trigger
to increase your future options even a little.
