[BGM] Walking through Chiran, Akune, and Sakurajima: Summer Scenery in Kagoshima | Jazz Lo-fi Hip-Hop - Behind the Scenes

A series that tours landscapes across Japan as if walking through them with music. This time, set in Kagoshima Prefecture, I aimed for an atmosphere that feels like a slow, hour-long stroll.

When people hear 'Kagoshima,' Sakurajima might be the first thing that comes to mind. However, this work is structured to let you feel the flow of a day by moving the setting not just to Sakurajima, but also to Chiran, where history breathes; Akune, a peaceful port town; and the seaside of Kagoshima City.

This is not a work that visits tourist spots one after another. I aimed for a piece that feels like slowly walking and observing the casual scenery that the people living there see.

The diverse expressions of the land of Kagoshima

While Kagoshima has a strong impression of grand nature, completely different atmospheres flow through each region.

Streets where quiet samurai residences remain. A seaside where the daily life of a fishing port continues. And Kagoshima City, where urban convenience and grand nature exist side by side.

Even within the same prefecture, the scenery and the flow of time change significantly. A major theme this time was to naturally connect those changes through music.

Rather than intense developments, I value the sensation of the scenery changing little by little.

Chapter 1: A quiet afternoon starting in Chiran

The first setting I chose is the Chiran Samurai Residence Garden group.

Walking along the paths lined with stone walls and hedges, my pace naturally slows down. It has a calmness born from the fact that it is a town where life still continues, rather than a bustling tourist destination.

Sunlight filters through the trees, casting soft light on the cobblestones.

Just by looking at such scenery, there is a feeling that my breathing naturally slows down and settles.

As an introduction to the entire work, there was no place more suitable than this peaceful time.

Chapter 2: Feeling the daily life of a port town in Akune

Next, the setting is Akune Port.

Many people might think of a tourist spot when they hear 'port town,' but Akune has a relaxed, everyday life.

The quay where fishing boats are lined up. The sea surface swaying quietly. The faint scent of salt carried by the sea breeze.

There are no flashy effects. That is precisely why just walking here calms the heart.

By layering the unique sense of openness of the seaside and the gentle passage of time into the music, I gave this middle part of the series a natural sense of expansion.

The time that began quietly in Chiran continues in Akune while slightly broadening the field of view.

Chapter 3: The End of a Day Overlooking Sakurajima

Finally, we are at Minato Odori Park in Kagoshima City.

This place, which looks directly out at Sakurajima, is surely one of the landscapes that symbolizes Kagoshima.

However, this time, rather than making Sakurajima itself the protagonist, I have focused on the time spent walking through the park.

The sound of the fountain. The promenade lined with palm trees. People walking along the seaside. And Sakurajima standing quietly in the distance.

Because it is a landscape where nature and the city coexist effortlessly, a calmness suitable for the end of the day is born.

As the place to conclude the entire work, I cherished this atmosphere.

Making an hour not a 'journey' but a 'stroll'

The purpose of this work is not to introduce locations.

I want you to feel the time spent walking through that land itself.

Therefore, while changing the atmosphere slightly with each track, I have structured it so that the hour flows naturally as a whole.

Even if the scenery changes, the walking speed does not. I proceeded with the production with that image in mind.

I aim for it to be comfortable even if you start listening halfway through, and to feel as if a single stroll has ended when you listen to it all the way to the end.

About the illustrations created in the video

In the video, the young painter Lo-fi-chan continues to draw the scenery of Kagoshima in an atelier where a cat lives. This time, as Lo-fi-chan 2.0, we have refined her expressions to make her movements more natural than ever before.

While the main focus is the scenery of Kagoshima, watching the process of each piece being completed creates a quiet narrative throughout the entire work.

This article also features the completed illustrations, so I think you can enjoy them in a different way by viewing them alongside the video.

I want you to walk through the summer of Kagoshima again and again

The quiet stone pavements of Chiran. The calm harbor of Akune. And the sunset overlooking Sakurajima.

What all these places have in common is that time flows there without the need to rush.

In our busy daily lives, we tend to focus only on reaching our destinations.

However, when you walk without a set destination, you sometimes notice the air, the light, and the expressions of the landscape of that land.

This work was also born from the desire to capture such casual moments through music and video.
