今日は成人式ですね！
華やかな著物を初々しく著て、
未來に希望を持ち、
目を輝かせながらお友達と街を歩いている若者を見ると、
こちらまで清々しい気持ちになれる一日です。
今朝は、mumu（9歳）とwawa（5歳）と一緒に
「成人式」と「振袖」について
調べてみようということになりました。
成人式の意味とは？
成人式は、20歳を迎えた若者が
「大人の仲間入り」を果たすことを祝う日です。
成人式には、自立の宣言や、
これまで育ててくれた家族への
感謝を込める意味があるようです。
また、この日をきっかけに社会の一員として
責任を持つことを意識し、
大人としての第一歩を踏み出す大切な瞬間です✨
成人式の歴史は、
平安時代に遡る「元服」から始まるようです。
元服は、男性が成人としての証を得る儀式で、
髪型や衣服を変え、社会に出る準備をしました。
江戸時代には、女性の成人儀式が発展し、
振袖が成人の正裝として広まりました。現在では、
成人式は20歳を迎えた若者が自立と
社会貢獻を誓う大切な日として定著しています。
新成人の皆さん、心からおめでとうございます！
👘振袖の柄とその意味
そして、振袖に欠かせないのがその華やかな柄。
調べてみると、著物、振袖の柄には一つ一つに意味が込められています。
例えば、鶴は「長寿」、桜は「新しい始まり」、梅は「困難を乗り越えて咲く希望」など。
著る人の未来に込められた願いが込められています。

「僕は鯉の柄がいい！なんかさ、運が昇っていきそうだから！」と笑顔で言っていました。
パパは自信満々にw
『俺は龍だな！やっぱり龍でしょ！』
私は『梅柄、鶴、鳳凰、扇、手鞠』と話しました。
えーー！多すぎるー！ずるーい！！w
えー！だって女性の着物柄多いじゃん！
wawaは？と聞くと
「僕はブンブンジャーっしょ！」と答えていましたw
思わず家族で大笑いしましたw
振袖の柄には「未来に向けての希望」や「幸せを呼び込む意味」が込められています。
今日、成人を迎える方々、想いが込められた柄をお召しになっていると思います😊
代々受け継がられてる方は、
ご先祖様からのメッセージのようでなんだか、
ロマンがありますね♪
そして、成人式はその希望を現実にする第一歩を踏み出す日でもあります。
ちなみに今回我が家が選んだ振袖の柄の意味も調べてみました↓
⚪︎鯉柄：立身出世や粘り強さ、知識、長壽を意味します。
⚪︎龍柄：出世や飛躍、幸運を運び、運気上昇を象徴します。
⚪︎梅柄：新春、忍耐、困難を乗り越える力を意味します。
⚪︎鶴柄：長壽や平和、繁栄を意味します。
⚪︎鳳凰柄：再生、幸福、永遠の命を象徴します。
⚪︎扇柄：繁栄や祝福、広がりを意味します。
⚪︎手鞠柄：円満、和、幸せを意味します。
⚪︎ブンブンジャー柄：正義の味方w🤭
今日の成人式を迎えた若者たちの晴れやかな姿に、
私も未来の子供達の姿を重ね、ワクワクしました😊

Today is Coming-of-Age Day in Japan!
It’s a day filled with joy, as we see young people dressed in vibrant, beautiful kimonos, walking through the streets with shining eyes and hearts full of hope for the future. It’s a refreshing and uplifting experience that reminds us of the potential ahead.
This morning, I decided to research “Coming-of-Age Day” and “Furisode” with my sons, mumu (9) and wawa (5).
What is Coming-of-Age Day?
Coming-of-Age Day is a celebration for young people who turn 20, marking their transition into adulthood. It is a day to declare their independence and show gratitude to their families for raising them.
This day also serves as a reminder for them to take on responsibilities as members of society and to begin their journey as adults. It’s a significant moment, symbolizing the first step toward maturity. ✨
The history of Coming-of-Age Day dates back to the Heian period with a ceremony called genpuku, which marked a male’s transition to adulthood by changing his hairstyle and clothing. During the Edo period, the ceremony evolved to include women, and the furisode kimono became a symbol of adulthood. Today, Coming-of-Age Day remains a cherished occasion for young people to vow their commitment to independence and contributing to society.

Furisode Patterns and Their Meaning
A significant part of the furisode is its stunning patterns, each with its own meaning. For example, the crane symbolizes “longevity,” the cherry blossom represents “new beginnings,” and the plum flower signifies “hope that blooms after overcoming challenges.” Every pattern is a reflection of the wearer’s hopes and wishes for their future.
mumu said, “I want the koi pattern! It feels like it’ll bring good luck and make me rise!” with a big smile.
Papa proudly declared, “I’m a dragon! Definitely a dragon!”
I shared my thoughts: “I like the plum blossom, crane, phoenix, fan, and temari patterns.”
“Whoa, that’s too many! Not fair!” they all exclaimed!
When I asked wawa what he liked, he confidently answered, “I want a Bun Bun Ja pattern!” (a character he loves). Everyone burst into laughter!
The patterns of furisode represent “hope for the future” and “welcoming happiness.” The new adults wearing these meaningful designs today are undoubtedly embracing these wishes.
For those whose patterns have been passed down through generations, it almost feels like a message from their ancestors—a romantic connection to the past.
Coming-of-Age Day is not only about celebrating today, but also about taking that first step towards turning these hopes into reality.
Here’s what we learned about the patterns we chose:
⚪ Koi pattern: Represents success, perseverance, wisdom, and longevity.
⚪ Dragon pattern: Symbolizes rise, fortune, and luck.
⚪ Plum blossom: Represents the new year, patience, and overcoming difficulties.
⚪ Crane pattern: Represents longevity, peace, and prosperity.
⚪ Phoenix pattern: Represents rebirth, happiness, and eternal life.
⚪ Fan pattern: Symbolizes prosperity, celebration, and expansion.
⚪ Temari pattern: Represents harmony, peace, and happiness.
⚪ Bun Bun Ja pattern: A superhero for justice! 🤭
As I watch the bright, confident faces of the new adults today, I can’t help but imagine what the future holds for mumu and wawa, and feel excited for their journey ahead.
