A Short Story on Lucky Days and the Seasons
⸻
🌿 Greetings
Good morning, this is Otoha Koto.
This is "Kojiki 365," a series where parents and children can learn about the "Kojiki" and the changing seasons in a relaxed way.
Today, I am sharing the record for October 2, 2025✨
⸻
☀️ Today's Calendar and How to Spend the Day
The calendar for Thursday, October 2, 2025, is a day where both lucky and unlucky omens overlap💡
・Shakko (Red Mouth): A day considered "unlucky."
Only the hour of the Horse (11:00 AM to 1:00 PM) is lucky.
A day to be careful regarding fire and blood.
・Daimyo-nichi (Great Bright Day): A lucky day when "heaven and earth open, and the sun's light reaches every corner." Ideal for construction, travel, and moving.
・Bosonichi (Mother's Day): A day when heaven cherishes people.
Especially auspicious for marriage and registering a marriage.
・Ten-ichi Tenjo: October 1st to 6th. A period when the gods of direction return to heaven.
A day when you won't lose your way in the direction you should go. Also said to be good for buying lottery tickets.
👉 Today, the unlucky day "Shakko" overlaps with the very lucky days "Daimyo-nichi" and "Bosonichi"!
Interpretations of the calendar vary from person to person, but
when in doubt, I want to cherish the choices that make me feel positive😉

🔷 Today's Kojiki: A Visit to the Land of Roots
Now, Oana-muchi-no-kami is still undergoing trials. I wondered how he would get past his father-in-law, Susanoo... and he actually stole the treasures and his beloved daughter and ran away😅
I'm a little nervous about what will happen...
Starting from here today👇✨
When Oana-muchi-no-kami
fled from the palace of his father-in-law, Susanoo-no-mikoto,
the Ama-no-norigoto (heavenly zither) he was carrying touched a tree branch,
making a sound that echoed through the earth.
Surprised by the sound, Susanoo-no-mikoto
pulled down the entire sleeping palace, but because his hair was tied to the rafters,
it took him time to untie it.
In that moment,
Oana-muchi-no-kami carried his wife, Suseribime-no-mikoto,
on his back and escaped far away.
[Original Text]
Itsu-ama-no-norigoto, fure-ki-shite-chi-ugoki-naru. Yue-ni, sono-ne-shi-okami, kiki-odoroki-te, hiki-taosu-sono-muro, shikashi-toki-musubi-taruki-kami-no-ma, tooku-nige.
⸻
It seems he managed to escape.
The fact that his father-in-law, Susanoo-no-mikoto, thought Oana-muchi-no-kami
was just exterminating centipedes,
and felt somewhere in his heart that "he's a cute fellow"
is an impressive scene🎬
If he hadn't lied and hadn't stolen and run away... I wonder if he could have been forgiven openly.
It makes me want to imagine that "other story"🤭
But in reality, he lied and ran away.
What kind of trials and landscapes await in the world that unfolds beyond that?
While I'm curious about what happens next, I'll take a break from reading here for today.
Tomorrow, I'd like to turn a new page and follow the path of the story together with you📖✨

🍁 A Short Story on the Seasons: Mizu Hajimete Karu (Water Begins to Drain)
Today marks the end of "Mushikakurete to wo fusagu" (Insects hide and seal their doors).
The sound of insects has really become a bit quieter, hasn't it!?😲
You can tell they are busily preparing for winter!
Starting on October 3rd,
the 72 micro-seasons will be "Mizu Hajimete Karu" (Water begins to drain).
It is said to be the season to drain the water from the rice paddies and prepare for the rice harvest☝️✨
Characteristics of this season
• The rice paddies turn golden
You can see fully ripened rice ears swaying in the drained paddies, or scenes of rice harvesting.
• The beginning of the harvest
In some regions, the rice harvest is in full swing.
In the past, it seems they used to hang the rice to dry in the sun (hasagake)📝
• The comfort of a clear autumn day
The air is clear, and the sky is beautiful.
⚫︎ A perspective to enjoy with parents and children
• Try talking while looking at the rice paddies, saying, "Each one of these grains will become rice for us to eat."
• Finding golden landscapes during walks or drives makes the autumn dining table even more special.
⚫︎ Seasonal food and living
• The season for new rice 🍚✨
• Chestnut rice, sweet potatoes, mushrooms... the bounty of autumn is lined up.
• Since the air is starting to dry out,
it's a time to be mindful of "moisture" through hydration and seasonal vegetables.
👉 "Mizu Hajimete Karu" is truly a turning point where the rice paddies shift from ripening to harvesting.
It is a season where we can feel the deep connection between the rhythm of nature
and our daily lives✨
⸻
✨ Summary
• The calendar is a day where "unlucky" and "very lucky" coexist. Cherish your intuition.
• The scene in the Kojiki is the desperate escape of Ashihara-shiko. The sounds of nature and musical instruments color the story.
• The season is "Mizu Hajimete Karu," the time when rice paddies welcome the harvest. I hope you enjoy the dining table while feeling nature with your children.
