Day or Dusk? 🏰 A Scenic Walking Route Through Malaga's Two Great Fortresses 🇪🇸
Towering over the hills in the heart of Malaga are the Alcazaba and the Gibralfaro Castle, two Moorish-style fortresses that have watched over the changing tides of history. These two castles are also iconic historical landmarks of Malaga.

🏰 The Twin Fortresses Watching Over Malaga
🌿 The "Little Alhambra" | Alcazaba de Málaga
Located on the hillside, the Alcazaba was built in the 11th century. It is often called the "Little Alhambra" because it served not only as a formidable military fortress but also as a luxurious palace for the rulers of the time. You can fully enjoy the beauty of pure Islamic architecture, including beautiful horseshoe arches, intricately carved walls, the sound of fountain water, and lush gardens filled with citrus trees and cypresses.

⛰️ Panoramic Views of the Entire City | Castillo de Gibralfaro
Further up at the summit of the hill lies the Gibralfaro Castle, built in the 14th century.
Unlike the palace halfway up the hill, this is a purely military fortress. Its sturdy walls, towering watchtowers, old powder magazines, and wells quietly tell the weight of history.
🌇 Walking along the high castle walls, you can get a panoramic view of the city of Malaga. It is also a perfect spot to watch a beautiful sunset, so visiting at dusk is highly recommended.
📝 Tips for Your Visit
These two castles are connected by a corridor of walls and once formed a massive defense system, but the entrances are separate‼️
(Please check the map below for their geographical locations. The defensive path in the middle is currently not passable.)

If you want to visit both, it is highly recommended to purchase a "combined ticket" at the ticket office.
🎧 About Using the MTour Audio Guide
Although the entrances are separate, they are close to each other and have deep historical ties, so the "MTour" app features these two spots as an "integrated" experience.
When visiting the Alcazaba, you can simply search for the numbers on the local information boards within the app to listen to detailed commentary.
