[Self-Introduction] Together with my daughter who has developmental disabilities. At the beginning of days expanding what she can do [Parenting children with developmental disabilities]
Introduction: To you who are reading this article
Nice to meet you, I'm Papao.
This note is a place where I record my days with my daughter who has developmental traits,
and document how we accumulate "I did it!" moments
through our craft projects and daily life.
I hope to deliver hints that might make parents who are struggling in the same way,
or those involved with children who have these traits,
think, "Maybe it's the same for us," or "Maybe I'll try that a little."
About me and my daughter
My daughter was born in 2016 and is 8 years old.
She has diagnoses of ASD, ADHD, mild intellectual disability,
and epilepsy.
She is clumsy with her hands, struggles to act in sequence,
and has sensory sensitivities...
There are many things, but she is full of curiosity,
and takes on many challenges every day.
I am her father, and because the moments of my daughter's "I did it!"
were so incredibly joyful,
I eventually started thinking, "Can I create a system to build up my daughter's successful experiences?"
What I am doing now and what I will write about from now on
Right now, I am trying and erroring daily with my daughter on craft projects using sea glass and
herbariums, simple cooking that focuses on sequences like instant ramen or scrambled eggs,
and practicing rule understanding and body movement through badminton and DIY.
With craft projects, there are days when it goes well, and
days when she throws it away saying, "I don't want to!"
But I record all of that, thinking it is also part of the "process of expanding what she can do."
In this note, I want to write not just about the experiences that went well,
but also about the failures, the times I got angry,
and the unexpected things, just as they are.
Conclusion: If you are interested...
Thank you for reading this far.
My efforts with my daughter might be useful to someone,
or they might not.
But if there is someone somewhere who thinks, "It's the same for us too,"
that alone makes me happy.
I will continue to write records of my challenges with my daughter
little by little.
If you'd like, I would be happy if you could support me with a like or a follow 😊
Thank you for your support.
I wrote a second self-introduction.
Please refer to this as well if you would like.
