Work is not something that falls into your lap, it is something you create
An interview article with Takeshi Yoro
I really resonated with it, so I'm sharing it!
A perspective that 'young people who quit after one day' should have
The essence of work is filling the hole right in front of you
The essence of work is filling the hole right in front of you.
If there is a hole, someone is likely troubled by it. So, you fill it.
Great achievements might lie along that path, or they might not.
There are so many people who do not understand this.
Try doing the work right in front of you first
Whether you can have the awareness that it is useful to someone—this is important, isn't it?
There is no such thing as work decided in advance
It is a misconception that work is something that exists beforehand.
People who have such misconceptions might end up asking their bosses or companies to 'define my work' for them.
They fail to understand that such things cannot be completely determined in advance.
The idea that 'work is something given to you' is a huge misconception, isn't it?
Perhaps getting too used to school tests leads to that kind of thinking??
Personally, I dislike being told what to do by others, so
I want to think for myself and make even the slightest improvements
If you take it for granted that you should make improvements yourself,
you wouldn't have the mindset of 'please define my work,' would you?
There are things you cannot do anything about on your own
People who remain like children no matter how old they get, or who do not mature, are troublesome.
The biggest problem with such people is that they do not accept the world.
'Society' has various rules.
You must also understand that the rules of the game are decided in advance.
However, there is a certain number of people who cannot accept that they cannot decide the rules of society themselves.
No matter what you think or how much dissatisfaction you hold,'Society' existed before you did.
You need to understand this major premise
The 'society' mentioned here refers to the world at large.
Society exists first,
and jumping into that is what it means to work.
There is room for choice, but
newcomers do not have the power to change the rules of society itself.
Once you realize that's how it is,
it's better to first think about what you can do
and how to approach the work right in front of you.
Just complaining out of selfishness
won't get anything done.
Perhaps it's just an illusion
that an ideal world exists somewhere.
Complain or take action?
Even I, who am saying this, used to grumble and complain when I was a rookie (laughs).
The office is too hot...
though those were just low-level complaints.
There's nothing you can do about that.
It's a trivial story, but
there was a large air conditioner in the lab on the opposite side of the office,
and when it was unbearably hot, I would go there to cool off.
What you can do is choose your actions.
Call it a small act of resistance, if you will,
but if you think about things and try various approaches,
I think you'll see some interesting developments.
In the first place, I think it's quite lucky to even be in a company.
If you quit the company, you have to do everything yourself.
Once you step outside the company, there are many troublesome things.
Since you've gone to the trouble of joining a company,
wouldn't it be better to make full use of the company's environment?
