An Introduction to Communication, Learning from "Super Communication Skills" by Atsushi Tamura
A refreshing communication introductory book with a big smile on the cover
"Super Communication Skills" by Atsushi Tamura, Oct 2023
- A textbook on communication for being liked only by the people you like -
Let me introduce it to you!
Atsushi Tamura, who was not originally good at communication
The author is the comedian Atsushi Tamura from London Boots Ichi-go Ni-go.
He says he wasn't originally someone with high communication skills.
In junior high school, his presence in class was about average or slightly below.
He says he wasn't popular either.
That's surprising, isn't it?
Communication skills are not a talent, but a skill.
It's true that many people feel uncomfortable with it, but
that comes from a misunderstanding.
Anyone can do it if they try!
However, he repeats practice and reflection,
and he has a geeky side where he tries quite a lot...
He doesn't seem like an ordinary person.
(Well, obviously lol)
The purpose of communication is to build good human relationships.
Most human worries stem from human relationships.
Building good human relationships is directly linked to happiness.
And good communication = good human relationships.
They are so deeply related that you could say that.
Good communication -> Good human relationships -> Ultimate happiness
Speaking well, or
becoming popular, isn't the goal.
That makes a lot of sense lol
The power to make the other person feel comfortable talking, rather than talking yourself.
The foundation of communication is, rather than speaking, the power of listening
A pleasant smile, nodding, and positive reactions
"Amazing," "I see," "Is that so?" (Tamura-style SNS)
Facial expressions that empathize with the other person's feelings
Listen carefully to what the other person has to say
If the other person is talking comfortably, that's a good start!
A crisp and clear "Yes!" response
The small 'tsu' in the response "Hai-tsu!" conveys your feelings and sincerity
It seems like a positive atmosphere will spread
Affirmation (understanding, empathy) + Question
Stock up on interest in the other person (Why is it like that??) within yourself, and
think about the other person's interests
The desire to know more enhances your questioning skills
Accept the other person's story, understand and empathize with it, and then ask a question
Once you have acquired the questioning skills that make others feel comfortable talking, you are at an advanced level
It is okay to say "I don't want to" sometimes
Being positive all the time is exhausting
Sometimes, there are moments when you want to say no
It is not about denying the other person, but
conveying your own honest feelings
Ultimately, if you have the desire to get along with the other person,
that is fine!
Communicate what you don't like and what you want to do
Staying still while feeling uncomfortable is more stressful
Don't procrastinate; clear up those uncomfortable feelings quickly
A place where you can feel at ease and say what you want to say
A place where you can open your heart and say what you want to say
Belonging to a safe and secure communityIf possible, it is better to have multiple such places
I realize that here too, human relationships are what really matter
A place where you can be yourself
Time alone is important, but not being lonely is even more important
Home, work, and one more place
A third place, perhaps?
Interacting with various people also broadens your perspective
Good human relationships create happiness
Rather than a typical how-to book,
it was a good opportunity to think about building relationships with people through communication.
It is easy to read and leaves you with a good feeling afterward
