Currently on a Work Break... ~The Choice of a Career Break~
My work tends to come in waves. There are times when I'm busy, and times when I'm free...
From an article that caught my eye,
The day when 'daring not to work' becomes the norm in Japan
The reckless assumption that 'not working equals being a lazy weakling'
(From Toyo Keizai ONLINE)
Taking a leave of absence or changing jobs isn't always a bad thing
It's said that due to labor shortages, changing jobs is now the norm.
I've never changed jobs, so I don't know much about it, but
it seems many people quit even after joining major companies within a few years.
Besides changing jobs, there are times when one enters a 'break mode' even within a company.
When I was a corporate employee, I was in a break mode roughly every three years.
Quietly, so as not to be noticed...
Whether companies exclude such people or not
seems to be the main point of the cited article.
There is also a conceptual stage for the future
In my case, after a major project settles down,
I often enter a break mode (and I'm in one now)
For now, relaxing my body and mind...
I start daydreaming about what to do next.
Daydreaming → Conception → Planning → Execution
The initial daydreaming stage that leads to this is very important
As it gradually warms up and reaches the conceptual stage, I also start doing research.
New businesses also require breathing room
What is the ability of someone who takes on 'experiments for new businesses (exploration of knowledge)'? It is said to be the 'power to question'. It is to cast doubt on what is taken for granted in society and companies. That is precisely why they can sense corporate risks and create the buds of new innovation.
And it is the career break that nurtures this 'power to question'
I see!
Was I nurturing the power to question from the daydreaming to the conceptual stage!!?
No, I am always 'questioning'.
Maybe I don't have time for that during the peak of a project,
but isn't 'questioning' always a fundamental trait of an innovator?
The 'power to question' has often been shunned in many companies until now as the 'annoying person' who questions the company's direction.
Yes. I am that annoying person.
I don't take common sense for granted.
I am always thinking about whether there is a different way to look at things than others.
If I didn't, I might overlook incredibly important issues.
God is in the details
That's why I am particular about details
Is this really okay??? I keep asking myself...
This is fundamental, isn't it?
However, to keep asking yourself questions, you need some breathing room.
Even I lose the capacity to "ask" when I'm super busy.
There are times when I lose my sense of self and become a work machine.
That's why, to regain myself, I relax...
I enter rest mode.
It's okay to intentionally have a period where you don't work, isn't it?
It's okay even if you aren't recognized by others, isn't it?
I don't think it's about whether or not a career break is officially recognized as a system.
It's about diversity, or perhaps,
it's about each individual, or,
I guess I just want to say, "Well, just leave me alone," lol.
That's all for today...
