Thinking about the background of 0 to 1 innovation: How to deal with a sense of discomfort
My origin is an innovative temperament.
I dig deep into the sense of discomfort that makes me ask, "Why?" I even look into things that might seem trivial.
I believe that not ignoring a sense of discomfort is a characteristic of people with an innovative temperament.
I woke up while imagining if there was a better way to explain it, and when I looked online, various things came up. Today is just a trivial story from that morning.
Ignoring a sense of discomfort is easy.
Why do so many people ignore their sense of discomfort?
Even though we asked "Why?" and "Why?" when we were children, why do we become so quiet and accept things as "just the way they are" when we become adults?
Is that what it means to be an adult? I don't really understand.
I don't really understand.
Could it be because "it's easier that way"?
But that's boring, isn't it?
I have written about this theme before (↓)
The courage to intentionally create friction
It seems to take courage to say, "Something is strange!"
It's like a habit; if you say it all the time, it's fine, but when you are acting like a proper adult, there seems to be a hurdle to voicing your discomfort.
It's also a good idea to utilize young people here.
New employees who have just joined the company often feel a sense of discomfort.
If you ask them, "Is there anything that bothers you?", they might tell you about the things they are feeling uneasy about. If you don't just end it with "I see," but instead show interest and dig deeper by asking, "What is that?" or "Specifically?", you might find the seeds of new innovation.
It may take time, but I feel it is important to have the leeway to intentionally create friction and enjoy that sense of discomfort.
Here is a story from my experience about young people creating the starting point for innovation (↓)
An interview video of TeamLab representative Toshiyuki Inoko has appeared!
While thinking about such things, I searched for various things and this video came up.
Osamu Hayashi x TeamLab representative Toshiyuki Inoko: Captivating the world with innovative digital art! What are his world-class work techniques!? [Sunday's Hatsumimi-gaku] From the TBS TV program
It seems to be from yesterday's TV program. It's amazing that the official site uploaded it to YouTube immediately after the broadcast.
It was good content, so I watched it twice lol
Enjoying diversity
At the root of innovation lies the habit of enjoying diversity. It is said that Mr. Inoko also grew up in a home surrounded by rich, diverse nature.
Whether or not you can enjoy diversity is a matter of perception. Efficiency alone is boring, isn't it? Perhaps that's the feeling. Let's recall experiences from when we were young where we spent time getting absorbed in something and enjoying it.
Changing the perception of the world!
Humans see the world through their own perceptions. We can only see things the way we want to see them.
Changing that perception is what innovation and art are all about. That part is interesting.
Sending out the question, 'Is that really so?' to the world. It would be great if that could become a business. However, it often takes time.
Mr. Inoko also said it took quite a long time before he was recognized and money started circulating.
It takes time, but he kept doing it because he wanted to...
Do what you want to do!
Doing what you want to do rather than seeking the approval of those around you.
This is also a characteristic of people with an innovative temperament.
Watching such people makes me excited.
Naturally, since it is a world with all kinds of people, there are those who work diligently and steadily.
There are also those who come up with strange ideas and grin to themselves.
It's because there are all kinds of people that it's fun. This was a record of me grinning from the morning.
