What if every employee read one book every day? - A vision for the future of our company library -
An original speed-reading seminar that we started four years ago
The cumulative number of participants has reached 187.
I secretly hope to exceed 200 by the end of this year.
The speed-reading seminar started by chance, but
as a long-term ambition, I have a vision for an in-house library.
Today, I'd like to talk about that...
Reading to broaden your horizons
Why do I read?
Well,
in my case, it's because I can't help but be curious about things I don't know.
The desire to know drives me to read.
And then, one new question leads to another!
And that is how I've fallen into the library rabbit hole.
Stimulating reading
When you feel bored, isn't there always reading to turn to?
Seeking stimulation, a momentary sense of satisfaction and security.
Is this really okay?
Are there other perspectives, viewpoints, or options?
I read as if I am exploring these questions.
Perhaps I am reading to accelerate my thinking.
Reading one book in 30 minutes: A new reading style
I don't have time to read books!?
That is just a misconception.
It started when I said,
"You can read a book in 30 minutes."
Once a goal is set, there are countless ways to achieve it.
I really hope that lowering the hurdle to start reading
will lead to new reading habits.
A vision of the future where dialogue begins through books
There is reading done individually and
reading done as a team.
If there is little daily dialogue at the company,
we should just increase the triggers for conversation.
Create a library corner in the office
A library system where the president buys books out of pocket when employees request them
Conversations are born while gazing at the rows of books
This is the in-house library concept
"Who requested this?"
"What is this? I didn't know this book existed!"
I am imagining a scene where just having books increases conversation like this.
In-house library concept
First, it would be good to try lining up books borrowed from a nearby library on the office bookshelf for
one or two weeks.
If you assign a shelf to each employee,
others will be dying to know what kind of books they are reading lol
If you are no longer satisfied with the library,
start an in-house system where you can order as much as you want on Amazon as well.
Order lists will arrive on the president's smartphone one after another...
The chaos of "What are you going to do reading a book like this!?"
might become a hint for opening up a new era.
Making it a habit for all employees to read one book every day
Speed reading is a skill, so once you acquire it, it is a
very valuable skill that you can use for the rest of your life.
All employees read one book a day and talk about it.
Knowledge and thinking will expand rapidly.
If a company like that spreads across the country,
it would be super interesting!
I'm sitting here on a quiet afternoon, grinning while dreaming of such a future (lol).
If you'd like to give it a try,
I'd be happy to offer some advice, so please feel free to reach out.
