2024 Reading Review: 240 Books from the Library!?
Since it is the end of the year, I will summarize my library usage history.
My reading pattern is almost entirely borrowing books from the library.
I think I only bought about 10 books from Amazon or bookstores (this year).
Reserve at the library → borrow → read/take notes → return
has become my routine.
4,159 books in 12 years
When I graph the number of books borrowed from the library by year,
it looks like this.

Until 2020, I used a commuter pass to also use libraries in Tokyo,
but since then, I have limited myself to local libraries, so the number of books has decreased significantly.
Even so, it has remained at around 200 books every year.
I had been saying over 4,000 books in 11 years, but
since I started keeping records in May 2013,
when I looked closely, it was actually 12 years (lol).
240 books in 2024
This year, it looks like this.

There is some variation, but it is a decent number.
Is the dip in February and August due to the heat and cold!? (lol)
Introducing books that left an impression in 2024
I will look back on the books that left an impression after reading various things.
Business Skills
Before worrying about how to express something, the choice of "what" to say or not say is what matters.
The secrets to explaining, conveying, and getting your message across.
Conveying → Getting across 100 perspectives focused on this. The systematic organization is also wonderful!
Explains the process of dialogue and interviewing!
A lovely book where you can see that while Mr. Tamura seems to be doing things casually,
he is actually thinking about them quite carefully.
Goes beyond the framework of time management to explain the secrets of giving meaning to time.
How to spend the precious time of your life.
AI-related
Thoughts on the relationship and roles between AI and humans—fascinating!
A high-level conversation between Junichi Rekimoto and Yoichi Ochiai lol.
In a good way, the unexpected points that break away from the expected harmony are interesting!
An essay collection!? The way Yoichi Ochiai thinks outside the box is funny lol.
While it is a practical book explaining how to use ChatGPT in practice,
it is also an interesting read! An exciting book.
Liberal arts books
Although it is formally a collection of book reviews, as the subtitle "Professor Yoro's Theory of Reading" suggests,
the challenging attitude of cutting through with sharp arguments is irresistibly stimulating!
Extra edition
There are still many books I haven't been able to introduce yet.
"Is There Life in the Universe?" by Masahiro Ono
- A journey seeking the origin and future of life -
An overwhelming passion that could be called madness for rockets.
A grand worldview that pursues space exploration
The relationship between politics, money, and science, which costs a huge amount of money
Choosing any means to achieve an end, between life and death, a truly life-or-death battle...
and so on; the sense of speed that makes you keep reading is very stimulating!
"Anything that one man can imagine, other men can make real." - Jules Verne
are also sprinkled with famous quotes like
Predictions of the birth and collapse of life
Why don't aliens attack?
The hypothesis that life evolves to a high degree and then collapses and perishes
Considering human history, is there little prospect of maintaining a high civilization for tens of thousands of years to come!?
Is it a civilized society of only a few tens of thousands of years??
questions like these make you think
With all that said, 2024 was a year where I read a lot of things
What kind of books will I encounter next year?
I'm looking forward to it!
