[Challenge in your 50s] I tried automating my monthly household budget management with agentic AI

I hear people say that the rise of AI will drastically reduce white-collar jobs.

✅️Can we really delegate that much work?
✅️Doesn't it have nothing to do with me since I'm not working?

Some of you might have such questions.
This time, I verified whether AI can replace something familiar to everyone: "money management."

Automating monthly household budget management

At the end of every month, I had one "obligation."

It was the task of registering the current month's household account book, which I had registered in the household management service "Money Forward ME," into an "expenditure management sheet" created in spreadsheet software.

I would create a new column for the current month, "March 2026," in the "expenditure management sheet" and reflect the amounts for each category, such as "housing expenses" and "food expenses."

It is a necessary task for visualizing annual income and expenditures, reviewing waste, and planning future budgets.
But, it is honestly a hassle.

1. Giving instructions to Claude Code

I decided to try automating it with the agentic AI Claude Code (Croco).

First, I opened Money Forward ME in Chrome and logged in.
Then, I opened Croco in the Claude desktop app.

In the prompt field, I simply entered:
"I want to reflect the March household account data from Money Forward ME into the 'expenditure management sheet' on Google Drive."

2. Claude Code starts moving

From there, Croco started moving on its own.

Please provide the URL for the expenditure management sheet.
In parallel, I will access Money Forward ME.

Suddenly, this response.
How reliable it is.

February data is currently displayed. I will move to March using the 'This Month' button.
I have confirmed the March data (Income: XXX yen, Expenditure: XXX yen).
I have successfully retrieved the March expenditure data.

Croco quickly operates the Money Forward screen to retrieve the necessary data.

Please provide the URL for the 'expenditure management sheet'.

And then, it prompts me to do my part, haha.

I was able to confirm the structure of the "Expense Management Table."
I scroll to the right to find the column for March 2026.

I open the "Expense Management Table" and read the structure myself.
As if to say, "Oh, so this is how the table is set up," I insert the March column myself.

While checking the existing expense categories from top to bottom, I keep entering the corresponding data.

3. Questions from Claude Code

After waiting a few minutes.
While I was watching the screen and drinking coffee, a few questions came from Claude.

There was an error in the registered data on Money Forward.
I corrected it and instructed it to re-execute.

With just that exchange, the work resumed.
Whenever Claude finds inconsistencies or deficiencies while processing, it interrupts the process to ask for confirmation.
It feels like having a capable subordinate.

After a while, a report came from Claude.
"The entry for March is complete."

Half-doubting, I open the expense management table.
It's properly entered.
Neatly, by expense category.

4. After several corrections, it was successfully completed

Since my instructions were rough, it wasn't perfect.
However, whenever I pointed it out, it responded instantly.

The tedious monthly manual work had been beautifully finished.
Above all, it's great to be able to do other things while leaving the processing to it.

Once you register a completed process, from the next month on, you just need to launch that process.

Agentic AI becomes a familiar presence

News about AI replacing human manual work.
That wasn't just a story for some IT engineers.

It was a story about me, in my 50s, facing my household account book.
"It thinks and acts on its own, and only asks about things it doesn't understand."

If this is the true nature of agentic AI, there is no reason not to use it.
You don't need difficult knowledge.
You don't even need to be able to write code.
It starts with a single line: "Do this."

Especially for those of you who are working hard on household budget management, I really want you to try it once.

Agentic AI will surely calmly erase your "this is such a hassle" moments too.
