[Short-Short] Lost and Found

At the entrance to heaven, there was a small window.

A sign was posted there.

"Lost and Found"

Many people come by every day.

"It's my wallet."
"It's my glasses."
"I left my house keys behind."

The clerk recorded each item in a ledger with practiced hands.

I stood at the end of the line.
Finally, it was my turn.

"May I have your name?"

When I told them my name, the clerk flipped through a thick register.

"Ah... it's you."

They brought a small box from a shelf in the back.

"Here is your lost item."

There was nothing inside the box.

"It's empty, isn't it?"

The clerk looked a little troubled.

"No. It was inside."
"What was?"

"A 'thank you.' You left it behind on Earth."

I instinctively looked back.
I could no longer return.
