I'm sure you've heard these things at least once.
While these are common phrases seen on social media and in magazines,
the reality is that many of them lack scientific evidence.
Recent research has found no evidence that "the posture of crossing your legs itself" has a clear negative impact on blood flow or the distribution of muscle and fat.
🩸 The Impact of "Crossing Your Legs" from a Scientific Perspective
1. There is a temporary rise in blood pressure
It is true that blood pressure rises when you cross your legs.
However, this is becausecardiac output temporarily increases,and it does not worsen the stiffness of the blood vessels themselves or the stagnation of blood flow.
It has been confirmed that during short periods of sitting,there are no significant changes in lower limb arterial blood flow or flow-mediated dilation (FMD).

2. There is no major difference in venous flow
When sitting for long periods, venous return in the lower limbs decreases.
However, there is noclear evidence that sitting with your legs crossed specifically worsens venous stasis.
In other words, the problem is not "crossing your legs," but rather
**"continuing the same posture for a long time."**

3. Posture and pelvic tilt are temporary
The idea that crossing your legs tilts your pelvis is also half true.
Biomechanical studies have shown thata temporary pelvic tilt and pressure difference on the gluteal muscles occur.However, these are
merely temporary postural changes, and no long-term structural changes or metabolic impacts have been confirmed.

🧠 The Doctor's View: "Crossing Legs = Bad" is a Misconception
The scientific conclusion at this point is clear:
"Crossing your legs" itself does not have a negative impact on healthy people.
However,
"Sitting in the same position for a long time" certainly has a negative impact on blood vessels and metabolism.
Therefore, what is important is not "whether or not you cross your legs," but
moving your body frequently.
For example, habits such as standing up and walking every 30 to 40 minutes, gently rotating your ankles, or moving your calves are recommended.

Rather than worrying about crossing your legs, it is important to reduce the "time spent not moving."
More than whether your posture is good or bad,being conscious of maintaining circulationis what leads to improvements in swelling, cold sensitivity, and metabolism.
True healthy habits begin with letting go of the assumption that "crossing your legs = bad."
