Happy Writing Marathon #29 | What is something in your current life you think you could stop doing?
Doesn't it feel like subscriptions just keep piling up before you even realize it, everyone?
The other day, I listed out everything I was subscribed to and reviewed it, and I realized that including the apps I use for work, I was spending nearly 100,000 yen a year on subscriptions.
The moment I saw that number, I had this strange feeling, like I was slowly bleeding from somewhere in my body without knowing it, and gradually getting weaker without realizing why.
While reviewing my subscriptions with that feeling in mind, I decided to cancel an online salon run by an influencer that I'd been feeling a small sense of unease about for a while, thinking, "Maybe it's okay to stop this," and decided to leave at the end of this year.
That salon was certainly food for my soul.
I received so many insights and words of encouragement, and it supported me many times when work was tough. There were even times when I looked forward to their monthly posts.
But, it has started to fit me just a little less than it used to.
That sense of unease that made me feel "maybe it's okay to stop" wasn't a feeling of coldness, but I think it was a signal that I had finished receiving what I needed.
It's not that I've come to dislike anyone, nor have I denied the value of it.
It's just that I've moved a little further ahead.
Reviewing subscriptions might not just be about reducing expenses, but a quiet process of confirming "what fits me right now."
I might come full circle and have my path cross with that salon again someday, but for now, I am graduating.
