22　What? No Visa for the Baby? At Haneda Airport　えっ？赤ちゃんのビザが無い？　羽田空港にて

生後三カ月の赤ちゃんと共に　親子三人楽々と台湾に渡れるはずだったのですが・・・
A family of three, including their three-month-old baby, was supposed to travel smoothly to Taiwan... or so they thought.

　お母さんの実家で赤ちゃんもスクスク育ち　五月の連休の初日にお父さんが迎えに来ました。お世話になった親戚や友達には心から感謝ですね。みんなに盛大に見送られながら三人はお母さんの故郷を後にしたのでした。そしていよいよ羽田空港に到着。
　ところが、何ということでしょう。
会社の事務所の手違いで　生まれたばかりの赤ちゃんのビザが取れていないことがこの時になってわかったのです。しかも連休中でお役所はお休み。ビザの申請ができません。
　えっ　えっー　どうするの？！
あまりにも盛大に見送られて来た關係上　お母さんの故郷にはちょっとそのまま戻るわけにもいかず　一旦お父さんの故郷である新潟に向かうことになりました。そこで三日ほどお世話になりその間にお父さんがビザの申請をしたのです。そして漸く正式に台湾に戻れることになりました。
　今にして思えば・・・ですが
新潟のおじいちゃんとおばあちゃんには随分迷惑をかけちゃったなとお父さんとお母さんは思ったみたいですけど、生後三か月の赤ちゃんの不意の訪問は　楽しさこそあれ　決して迷惑なんかじゃなかったのではないかな・・・

The baby had been happily growing and thriving at mom’s family home. On the first day of May’s Golden Week, dad came to whisk them both away. With hugs, heartfelt gratitude, and a big send-off from family and friends, the little family said goodbye to mom’s hometown. Off they went, hearts full and smiles wide, heading straight for Haneda Airport.

And then—plot twist!

It turned out that the company’s office had forgotten one tiny but very important detail: securing a visa for the baby! To make matters worse, it was the holiday season, and government offices were all closed, leaving no way to apply.

“Wait...what?! No baby visa?” Cue the collective panic.

With such a grand farewell already behind them, going back to mom’s hometown wasn’t really an option. Instead, they made their way to dad’s hometown in Niigata for a brief three-day stay. During that time, dad worked on getting the baby’s visa sorted out. Finally, after a bit of an unplanned detour, the family was officially on their way back to Taiwan.

Looking back now, mom and dad couldn’t help but feel a little bad for causing a fuss at grandma and grandpa’s place in Niigata. But honestly, who could call an unexpected visit from their adorable three-month-old grandbaby anything but a delightful surprise?
