Wind God |Now, among the many things in the |heavens and earth that the |naked eye |cannot see, the wind is the one whose |true |form |no one knows. |Yet, is there a |god |of the wind? |In the "|Book of Jin |Commentary," it is said, "|Feilian is the |Wind Earl, and the |Winnowing |Basket |constellation is the |Wind Master." That star is at the gate of the |northern |constellation, and it is |known |to the |masses |that it |governs the wind. Also, the |form |of the |Feilian |god is |described as having a body |like a |deer, a |head |like a |sparrow, |horns, a |serpent's tail, and a |leopard's markings; therefore, although its |image is |shown here, |in reality, |what kind of thing could it be?

Also, in the |northern |provinces and |cold regions, it is |called "|Kamaetachi." When one |encounters a |whirlwind, one |truly |suffers |injuries. |Yet, one |never sees its |form. |Since that |thunder beast sometimes |falls to |earth and is |caught by people, it is thought that it might be |something |similar to that, and one sees |artists |depicting it with the |body of a weasel and |growing |fangs. It is thought that this is merely a case where "kamaetachi" was |misheard as "kamaitachi" (sickle weasel) through |hearsay, and such an |image was |drawn and |displayed to |startle the eyes of the |ignorant.
