[Osaka] Sumiyoshi Takadouro (High Lantern)

The Takadouro (High Lantern) of Sumiyoshi-no-ura is located directly west of the main shrine, serving as a landmark for incoming ships every night. This place is called Nagao-no-ura.
In all, this area is a superb view; to the east, the pine forest of the shrine grows thick and lush, and to the west, the blue sea stretches out boundlessly, astonishing the eyes of pilgrims. At the clam teahouses, the sound of paper fans never ceases. From the low tide in March to the ritual bathing in June, all these are recreational activities on this shore, and one should admire the depth of the divine will.
Note: "Nagao-no-ura" appears to be written as "Naga-e-no-ura," but based on the actual place name, I have rendered it as "Nagao-no-ura."
Note: "The ritual bathing in June" refers to the Shinto ritual of purifying the portable shrine in the sea during the Sumiyoshi Festival, where people would bathe in the seawater at Nagao-no-ura on the 14th day of the sixth lunar month to pray for good health. This is the salt bath of Sumiyoshi. The mud bath of Sumiyoshi.
