Starting a Morning Reading Room!
Even though staying at home gives us a chance to make time for reading, many people may find it difficult to open a book due to an unfamiliar daily rhythm. Since we heard this from people at the Möbius Open Library, we have decided to experimentally create a space where we can read while loosely connecting online.
The image is like a library reading corner, a place where there are people around you reading books. This is not a so-called book club. We won't be talking to each other, but knowing that 'there are people around me doing the same thing at this time' might make it a little easier to find motivation and stick to a schedule.
Specifically, it is very simple as follows. Participation is open to everyone, so please feel free to join.
・We will open on the online meeting system Zoom every weekday morning from 8:00.
・Please enter and leave whenever you like.
・There is no age limit. Children are also welcome to participate.
・As a guide, a chime will ring at 8:20, 8:30, and 8:50.
・If you would like to participate, please apply by the day of your first session.
As a supplement on how to use the time, for example, children who have done 'morning reading' at school can start at the 8:20 chime and finish at the 8:30 chime if that was their 10-minute session. University students who want to create a daily rhythm with reading or working adults who want to make a little time for reading every day can use the 30 minutes from 8:20 to 8:50. Please use it according to your own goals and rhythm.
A note about Zoom. If you have never used it before, you will need to download the Zoom app. If you are on a computer, a screen for automatic installation will appear when you open the address sent after registration. If you are on a smartphone, please download the official Zoom app from the app store.
Since this project is based on the idea that having people around you reading will be a motivation, please participate with your camera on in principle. Please keep your microphone off. Please refrain from taking photos or capturing the screen during the session.
We would be happy if you could write the title of the book you are reading or your thoughts on participating in the Zoom chat function. (Optional)
From 9:00 to 10:00, we will have time to turn on our microphones and chat. (The reading corner turns into a cafe!) Of course, you can continue reading, but it is okay to talk even if others are reading.
Since we are just starting out, we may change the operation method slightly as we go, so please understand. Let's enjoy reading.
