Spring is the Season of Farewells
Every year around this time of season,
even though the warm temperatures and
the vivid colors of the flowers
give me energy,
every time spring approaches,
a sense of loneliness crosses my mind.
Farewells to the staff members
who gathered for this past year
are waiting.
Parting with the children, too,
sinks deeper into my heart year after year.
That is why I try to convince myself
that this season is made to be
busy.
The loneliness that I cannot overcome
unless I lose myself in busyness
is coming again this year.
The time has come once again
to say goodbye to this town.
Since there was a local event held at the school today,
the children were also at school. A child who came accompanied by their older brother came to greet me.
"Thank you for being our homeroom teacher."
I received a message from their mother this morning saying they had cried all night yesterday.
There was another child who came accompanied by their mother.
They gave me a handkerchief with the character I always draw on it.
I will use this handkerchief for the farewell ceremony.
Because of that, I stopped by a stationery store on my way home
and prepared notebooks as gifts for everyone in the class.
I even asked the shop staff to wrap them.
When my transfer was decided, I also prepared individual message cards for each of them.
All that is left is to think about what to say in front of the microphone,
but I am sure I won't be able to say anything long without tears coming to my eyes.
I am thinking about
finding short words that will convey my feelings.
