I encountered a beautiful trumpet sound on the internet. It was a musician named Reiya Terakubo, born in 2001 and hailing from Hokkaido. Given his surname and birthplace, I wondered if he might be related to Elena Terakubo, who is active in NYC, and it turns out he is her cousin.

Reiya The P.A.V.E. is the project name, and P.A.V.E. stands for Parhelion And Vagarious Epoch, which translates to 'Sun Dog and Eccentric New Era'.

The project members are musicians of the same generation: Reiya Terakubo (trumpet/vocals), Sora Ichikawa (keyboards), Kenshin Sugimura (guitar), Shuya Yamamoto (bass), Takuto Yamachika (drums), Yuki 'Bandy' Ehara (bass), and Hikari Kubota (keyboards). The performance skills of musicians in recent years are truly amazing.

The album feels like a showcase of music. Various genres overlap in their raw form, intertwining with Terakubo's relaxed, resonant trumpet. It feels as if he is saying, 'I can go in any direction.'

The fifth track, 'AMENAMI,' which features his cousin Elena Terakubo (sax), is mainstream jazz. It makes me want to listen to a double-leader album.
