64. Half of Setsubun is made of kindness
It is Setsubun. Sadly, I feel like these days everyone is so captivated by eating Eho-maki (enjoying the variations of ingredients too much!) that the excitement of bean-throwing has diminished—or is that just my imagination? However, no matter how many people line up for Eho-maki, bean-throwing will surely never disappear.
Why? This year, too, the ogres will come to be hit by beans, and people will throw beans at the ogres. What on earth is this never-ending loop? This loop that never reaches a conclusion? What is the essence of this interaction that, at first glance, looks like a battle between humans and ogres?
Yes, to put it dramatically, this is love. They are yearning for communication. Regardless of how it began, or rather, they have desired communication with each other from the very start. For a whole year, they have been thinking of each other, wondering, 'I wonder if they are feeling lonely?'
I can't wait a whole year, so I throw an eraser at that girl next to me every day. Even if she throws it back with all her might and it hurts, I hope this continues every day.
