Recommended Hobbies for Adults | [Part 5] Writing a Letter to Your Future Self in One Year
I have written significantly fewer letters by hand lately. After all, if you have a smartphone or a computer, you can output text. However, I feel that words written by one's own hand hold more meaning than those displayed on a screen.
With that feeling in mind... well, it's not like I had such a noble reason, but I want to try using a wax seal!I went looking for a hobby with just that single-minded focus.
[Writing a letter to your future self in one year]
Sensitivity: ★★★★★
Writing Speed: ★★★
Decisiveness: ★★★★★
I've wanted to try this for a while. Wax seals. They look cool.
However, I rarely have the opportunity to write letters, and preparing the necessary tools is a hassle. That's it, I'll just book an experience program.
That is how I ended up booking the program at Jiyucho where you write a letter to your future self in one year.
The location I visited this time was their second branch, 'Futo'.
When you enter the shop, letters written by people who visited in the past are lined up, which is a breathtaking sight.

Once you take your seat, you choose your stationery, a drink, and a dessert.
There are three types of stationery available, so you can choose according to what you want to think about, what you are feeling, and what you want to write at that moment.
I visited with two friends, so we each chose a different one. Other than the design of the postcard and the questions provided to help you write the letter, there didn't seem to be any other differences.

The time limit for the seat is two hours, so considering the time needed for the wax seal, it seems I had to finish writing in an hour and a half.
Now, a problem arose here.
...What should I write in the letter?
I only wanted to do a wax seal, so I hadn't thought about anything else. The only thing I could think to say to my future self was something like, 'Live happily!'
After thinking about it, my friends and I decided to play 'Quiz: The Answer is in One Year'.
・What will be the Kanji of the Year?
・Who will win the Academy Awards?
・What will be the buzzwords?
・Who will be the top 3 in the Sanrio Character Ranking?
...and so on, we made various predictions.
I'm looking forward to next year to see how many we got right.
I completely ran out of time, and while I slightly exceeded the target of an hour and a half, I rushed to put it in the envelope (I wish I had about another hour).
Feeling a bit reluctant to leave, it was time for the long-awaited wax seal!
I chose four from the many colors and heated them up.

Once it melted, I took a deep breath and dropped it onto the letter, then pressed the stamp down firmly!
Partly because I got cold feet, it ended up stretching strangely to the right. Decisiveness is important, isn't it?

Finally, you drop it into the mailbox in the shop, and you're done!

The space was wonderful, the dessert was delicious, and it was a very fun time!
It was so much fun that I've already promised my friends that we'll come back when the letters arrive in a year.
Please, do try visiting!
