[Notice] Information on the 2026 Sendai Tanabata Festival (8/6–8/8)✨
One of Japan's three great Tanabata festivals,the Sendai Tanabata Festival, will be held for three days from August 6th to August 8th. Please enjoy the spectacular sight of the area in front of the station and the shopping arcades filled with colorful, giant bamboo decorations.
Event Schedule:
・Sendai Tanabata Fireworks Festival (Eve Festival)
Date and Time: Wednesday, August 5, 2026, 19:30–20:30
Location: Around Aobayama Park and the Hirose River riverbed
Details: Approximately 16,000 powerful fireworks will color the night sky of Sendai.
・Sendai Tanabata Festival (Main Festival)
Date and Time: Thursday, August 6, 2026 – Saturday, August 8, 2026
Main Venues: Shopping arcades such as the area around Sendai Station, Chuo-dori, and Ichibancho-dori
Highlights: Gorgeous Tanabata decorations…Beautiful streamers over 5 meters tall, handmade by each shopping district.
On the day, the city sightseeing bus 'Loople Sendai' will also run specially as the 'Tanabata Night Bus.' There is also the fun of a stamp rally✨ A free shuttle bus will also run between the Sendai Castle Ruins light-up venue and the Aoba Park rotary. Click here for details⇩✨
