In this modern age where nature is disappearing, it feels like seeing a firefly is not such an easy thing to do.

However!! It seems you can see fireflies at Kenrokuen Garden 🌟

1. First, information about the firefly viewing event

I haven't visited yet, but it seems that every year from late June to early July, Kenrokuen Garden is opened for free at night for a firefly viewing event ✨ (Check the flyer for this year's schedule!)

The night-time opening of Kenrokuen Garden only happens during times like the cherry blossom or autumn foliage light-up periods! Don't miss this precious opportunity 😼

And, fireflies are somehow fantastical, and I have a feeling it will be a special, slightly romantic night!!

2. Precautions when viewing fireflies

① Depending on the weather, fireflies may not appear 🌀

② For firefly viewing, the lighting inside Kenrokuen Garden is kept to the bare minimum and is dark. Please be very careful of your footing when visiting ⚠️
(It seems there is no light-up!)

③ From a safety perspective, the open area is limited. Please check the signs in the garden for the areas accessible on the day 👀

④ Please refrain from using a flash when photographing fireflies 📸

3. Tips for photographing fireflies

As someone with 7 years of camera experience, I will share tips on how to photograph fireflies fantastically!

I lived in Kyoto a few years ago, and at that time I went out to photograph fireflies every year. I thought, if only I had that data!! So I went back through my camera roll and dug it up 🎞️

The yellow light that looks like a beam is a firefly 💛

If you have a mirrorless or SLR camera, the trick is to slow down the shutter speed to capture more light!

If you are shooting with a smartphone, the light emitted by fireflies is very weak, so I think you can take good pictures by using the night mode on an iPhone or similar device 👍

I haven't photographed fireflies since I returned to Ishikawa Prefecture, so I want to go this year for sure!
