Remake🧵Remake

It's Miyu.

Well, this is sudden, but here is a question.
What on earth could this be?

It's faint because I drew the lines with a mechanical pencil.

Did you figure it out?
The answer is a car sun visor, some red synthetic leather fabric, and a pattern traced from the sun visor.

My husband asked, "I want to remake my old sun visor, but what should I do?" so I decided to lend him a hand. You all probably think red is a flashy color. I think so too lol.
But that's because the car is red, and it's a bit of a rare car.
As for what kind of car it is...

Honda Beatis the answer.

There was even a commercial for it like this.

The commercial song wasYuko Hara's"Jin Jin".

I have an image of Yuko Hara's songs being mostly gentle, but this song is a really cool track. I liked this song and used to sing it at karaoke too.

So, we have one of the very, very first models of this Beat at home. ← It's already 30 years old!
It had been left alone for a long time, but my husband got it roadworthy by passing the vehicle inspection, getting license plates, and doing repairs. It seems like he plays around with it, tinkering with it a little bit almost every day.
And so, we ended up working on the sun visor too.

I also helped him replace the seatbelts the other day. Of course, I'm not the one who removes them from the car or installs them.

By the way, here is a photo of our Beat when it was brand new☆

A shiny new car and a fresh-faced me (lol)

That's me on the side.
It was around the time I started dating my husband, and I got to ride in the passenger seat a little on the day it was registered. It was raining, and my hair was all frizzy. I remember I had a strong perm back then.
I was wearing a Peyton Place snap cardigan and some slightly expensive jeans I bought at a trendy jeans shop. I don't really know the brand name.
I can't help but think the Peyton cardigan is a knockoff of agnès b. lol
But it was easy to mix and match, so I wore it a lot.

The Beat is a fun car to drive. You can rev it up and shift gears. ← This one doesn't have an automatic transmission setting.
However, the ride height is extremely low, so it was scary if a dump truck was in front of us.
It's cramped, you can't carry anything, and it's a 2-seater, so it's purely a toy car. But the fact that it's a convertible is what's great about it.

+++++++++++++++

That was a long introduction.
Now, I'll introduce the work process a little bit.

I'll cut the fabric.
Place the synthetic leather right-sides together on the cutting mat.
Place the pattern straight down and put weights on it. Mine are Clover sewing weights.
Cut along the pattern with a rotary cutter.

For the pattern, I added 1cm of ease to the original size and 1cm for the seam allowance.

I replaced it with a needle plate that has markings.

Since the seam allowance is 1cm, I will sew while aligning it with the 1cm mark on the needle plate.
Since you can't use pins on synthetic leather, I'll hold it in place with sewing clips. If you don't have any, binder clips from stationery work fine too.
By the way, even when sewing regular fabric, it's easier to use clips than pins. Since you align it with the markings on the sewing machine's needle plate, you don't even need to draw seam allowance lines.
Let's skip any steps we can! Sometimes, I even sew without using clips at all.
For curves, it's less likely to shift if you hold the fabric with one hand on each side of the needle and sew slowly.
Synthetic leather and vinyl-coated fabrics are difficult to sew, so it's best to sew slowly.

This sewing machine is a JUKI SPUR90 that I bought used because I wanted it. This machine is also 30 years old, but it's in perfect condition. I bought it online from a shop that had it thoroughly serviced. They say it can even sew a little bit of leather. It's a heavy, iron, Japanese-made machine that is rare nowadays. It's an industrial sewing machine that can only sew straight lines, but it can sew through anything.
The one peeking out at the top is a serger. I also have one more computerized sewing machine.

Once you've finished sewing, make notches in the curves. Make them deep enough without cutting the stitches. After that, you would normally iron along the seams, but you can't iron synthetic leather. So, I use a creaser to make the folds. The creaser in this image is a Clover patchwork creaser, and it's very easy to use.
Since it's synthetic leather this time, it's hard to get a sharp crease, but it works perfectly on regular fabric.
These fabric scissors are Henckels. I've been using them for about 6 or 7 years now. I had been using the scissors from my elementary school sewing kit until then, but I was surprised at how sharp these were when I switched. They aren't that expensive and don't require maintenance, so I recommend them.

After turning it inside out, I'll try inserting the sun visor.
I wonder if I didn't need that 1cm of ease. Since it's 1+1, it becomes 2cm. It might have been better to go with 1.6cm, which is 0.8+0.8. But it's a hassle to resew it, so I'll just leave it as is lol.
After all, it's for home use and not for sale. ← This is my mindset when I sew things for myself. Basically, I'm lazy.

I'll close the top part by hand sewing.
I've made notches where the metal parts are. I'll close it with a ladder stitch while folding in the seam allowance.
Once it's closed, it's finished☆

There are some minor flaws, but I'll call it good enough.
Overall, I think it turned out pretty well.

I'm tired from working, so I'll take a little break.
I'll have a snack with my coffee.

A dessert from 7-Eleven. I bought it at lunch.
I chose one from the Asian Gourmet Fair. It's the "Dalgona Coffee & Melting Milk Pudding." I thought about having a cream puff, but I ended up choosing something new.

It has a sweet and bitter coffee cream on top, and the milk pudding underneath is a bit less sweet. I thought it might be just right when you eat both together.
It was delicious. After eating this, I somehow felt like having tiramisu.

After my snack, I'll replace the straps on the Osamu Goods tote bag I bought at the sock shop the other day. I'll remove the existing cord and thread through a wax cord.
This thick wax cord also came in dark brown, but it was slightly too short, so I went with beige.
I have a wasteful amount of fabric and notions. Aside from clothes, I can make almost anything with the materials I have on hand. I also have the tools to make them.

The keychain on the bag is something my eldest daughter gave me in the summer. She likes Irasutoya, doesn't she? I had kept it stored away for a long time, but I decided to take it out.
Now that I've replaced the straps, it might look a bit more expensive (lol).

And, while I have my sewing box out, I'll take care of the mending I've been putting off.
I sewed on a button that had fallen off, attached a hook that had come loose, and mended a frayed spot. For now, I've finished the tasks I had been putting off.

I took out the Hina dolls the other day and my body was aching, but today I ended up doing some work that made my shoulders stiff again. I'm just so stiff now!

Thank you for reading until the end today as well♪
