How do you keep track of the books you've read? My guide to using reading record apps

How do you keep your reading records?

Do you keep a record of your reading?
What format do you use to manage them?

I started getting obsessed with reading over 20 years ago. Back then, I used to write down my thoughts and memorable phrases in a handwritten notebook. But as times changed, I started wanting to manage them digitally, and now I use several reading record apps in combination.

Reading apps each have their own appeal.

  • Easy to manage books you've finished

  • Automatically notifies you about new releases

  • The bookshelf design is simple and easy to view

  • You can rate books with stars

  • You can interact with other readers through likes and comments

And so on...
Since it's hard to choose just one, I use multiple apps together, partly as a backup.

In this post, I'll introduce the apps I'm currently using.

✏️ Booklog

The first reading record app I ever used.
It's convenient to be able to rate books with stars, and the reviews from other users are helpful. It's fun not just to record my reading, but also to check for new releases.

🖍️ Dokusho Meter

It's great that you can see your reading data in graphs.
However, the loading speed is a bit slow, which is a concern... Another feature is that the user experience feels quite different between the PC version and the smartphone app.

✏️ Rakuten Readee

I like the simple bookshelf display.
It's also convenient that you can jump to the Rakuten Ichiba product page from each book's page.

🖍️Biblia

Registration is super easy! I find it very useful when I want to quickly record books I've finished. I recommend it for those who want to keep things simple.

✏️Instagram

Rather than just a reading log, I use it as a place for gathering information about books and interacting with other book lovers. It's fun to look at photos of books and share thoughts with each other.

I want to start keeping paper records too

Lately, I've started thinking, "I'd like to keep a reading record on paper, too."
One reason is that I want to show it to my daughters. However, to be honest, I'm not very good at pasting photos or writing out neat, handwritten entries...

So, what I'm trying out now is capturing the bookshelf screen from Rakuten Readee, printing it out, and filing it.
It's simple, but I have a feeling it will turn out quite nicely!

If it turns out well, I'll write another article about it.
