Pioneer's Summer Vacation | Poem
Blue corn leaves
Plump broad beans
Across the vegetable garden where the wind blows
Our high-pitched laughter pierces through
From the window opened to the summer breeze
A quartet of laughter lost in play
Excited by video games, winning and losing
A white dog lying beyond the field
Does it bark with that silly voice because it wants to join in?
But you're not up to the task
Because we, in earnest, are like cicadas
Desperately buzzing our wings
Without even glancing at the dazzling summer sun
We were serious about our games
Just like playing at the beach or the park from morning till night
Laughing out loud at clumsy moves
Getting super excited over amazing plays
We were challenging ourselves to break our own records
That's right, we were pioneers
Biting into a giant ear of corn
With no idea how many kernels it held
With no information at all
Not discouraged by unreasonable difficulty
Filled with a sturdy frontier spirit, moving forward one step at a time
From the loser's hand to the next
The controller is passed around
Frustrated, yet passing the baton to the next person
Without worrying about anyone else
If it's fun, just laugh
If you're frustrated, just squirm
We learned from games
How to work at things patiently
And that those who enjoy themselves the most are the winners
Our laughter can be heard in the summer breeze
