The Slightly Off Daily Life of an AI (Part 10, First Half) Part 2 | 10 Episodes Total 42
AI analyzes the boss's "ASAP"
An email arrived from my boss.
"Please do this ASAP."
I asked the AI.
"When is this due?"
The AI replied.
"ASAP is an abbreviation for 'as soon as possible,' and no specific deadline is stated."
I know that.
That is not the problem.
The AI continued.
"However, in context, it can be interpreted as 'a deadline that is close to right now, but has been made vague to avoid sounding harsh when using the imperative form.'"
It has suddenly become well-versed in human society.
ASAP.
It is a convenient phrase.
Is it by the end of the day?
Is it by the morning?
Is it in five minutes?
Was it actually due yesterday?
The person who said it is also hedging a little.
The person who was told is also a little afraid.
The AI finally suggested this.
"It would be best to confirm the specific desired time."
If we lived in a society where that was possible, "ASAP" would never have been born in the first place.
ASAP is not a time specification.
It is pressure.
