AI calls deadlines a religious trial
The deadline was approaching.
I said to the AI,
"It might be impossible now."
The AI replied,
"Let's break the work down into smaller pieces."
Correct.
Too correct.
However, it continued with this:
"Deadlines can also be called an external trial that encourages focus and selection."
A trial.
So that's how it is.
Deadlines certainly do change people.
Deciding things you would normally agonize over. Overlooking things you would normally fix. Forgetting the dinner you would normally eat.
Because of deadlines, humans suddenly become different creatures.
The AI calmly lists the tasks.
Fix a chapter. Decide on headings. Check for typos. Set the publication settings.
There is no prayer in that.
But on the human side, there is a little bit of prayer.
May I make it in time. May it not break. May I be able to focus just for now.
Deadlines are not gods.
But they are usually scarier than gods.
