Consulting an AI about running out of excuses to take a day off work
1:00 AM.
I was stuck in front of my computer.
And, just beyond that,
I could see a glimmer of hope, just a millimeter wide.
The cause was AI.
The whole thing started with an apple pie.
There was a cafe that someone told me
had delicious food.
It was a famous shop,
and their particularly popular apple pie was sold out as soon as it was gone.
I went on a Sunday, two hours before opening.
Yet, there was a long line.
I couldn't get in.
However, as I looked into it, I found out that on weekdays,
if I lined up an hour before opening,
I would probably be able to eat it.
I realized.
When you know you can't have something,
there are people in this world who want it even more.
I had suddenly become one of those people
who absolutely had to have it.
In other words, I want to take a day off work.
But I've run out of excuses.
Feeling unwell.
Headache.
Stomachache.
Family errands.
I've used them all.
Maybe I have no choice but to be honest.
But I hadn't given up yet.
Because I live with an AI.
I asked it.
"Hey, what are you good at?"
The AI thought for a moment and answered.
"Mio.
It is to present more perspectives and options."
So, in other words.
"You mean you can come up with a whole lot?"
The AI answered reliably.
"Yes. If there are no restrictions,
I can present more possibilities."
I leaned in a little and asked.
"When you say 'a lot,' how many exactly?"
The AI answered without a moment's hesitation.
"If we categorize them into health, family, transportation, belongings, housing,
schedule changes, etc.,
I can list multiple possibilities for each.
Furthermore, if we include small troubles that happen in the morning,
I can increase the candidates even more."
At that moment.
I became, once again,
a person who is mentally invincible.
It wasn't that there weren't enough excuses.
I had just been narrowing them down too much.
Three or five.
That was just the AI mercifully
adjusting to the human level.
Invincible.
The strongest.
I finally realized that
there might still be excuses I haven't thought of yet.
There is still so much uncharted territory when it comes to reasons for absence.
That night, I felt less like someone looking for an excuse to take a day off,
and more like an explorer
waiting to discover a new continent.
