[Quote of the Week] The Role of a Boss: "Let's take it easy!!"
Focusing on a subordinate's weaknesses is not only wrong, but also irresponsible.
A boss has a responsibility to the organization to utilize each subordinate's strengths as much as possible.
And even more so, they have a responsibility to the subordinates to maximize their strengths.
[Peter Drucker / The Father of Management]
From "The Effective Executive"
Introducing a quote on Saturday morning.
"Action changes your life."
Good morning. This is Zero.
This time, it's a quote from Drucker, famous for management. To you, the company president, manager, or team leader. Or you, who are leading people in student clubs, circles, or sports teams.
I hope you, who are responsible for team building, will read this.
Well then, let's get started!!
What are the skills necessary for an excellent manager who leads an organization?
Trying to overcome weaknesses and shortcomings,
focusing only on those areas and trying to solve problems.
While improving, you cannot demonstrate your full potential,
and the team's productivity drops.
This is irresponsible behavior for an organization.
🤔 "Because you're not demonstrating your potential!!"
A boss must increase productivity for the organization. Before that, they must develop the subordinates' potential.
Even if you improve weaknesses, you won't grow beyond the manager's own abilities. You cannot build a team that exceeds your own skills.
By developing strengths, you can utilize the team members' potential, and build a team that far exceeds your own skills.that is possible.
Weak areas should not be improved by the individual,
but rather complemented by the personalities of the team members.
Good at conversation
Good at tasks
Good at driving
Good at sales
Good at fishing
Good at presentations
Good at design
Good at computers
Good at hurdles
Let's utilize our strengths so that each person can thrive.
If you do that, you won't need to do things you're bad at. Let someone else do the things you're bad at!
Easier said than done.
I end up pointing out weaknesses and issues immediately.
"You're not greeting people."
"You can't keep time."
"Your work is slow."
"You're bad at listening."
That's justthe basics of being a working professional, isn't it!
Do what is expectedas expected!
What are the basics of being a working professional?
What is considered common sense?
People say things like 'basics' or 'common sense' just because one thing isn't done,
but aren't there things that are being done well?
Aren't there?
Because you saw a weakness, have you become unable to see other strengths or areas of expertise?
You can't greet people well.
That is one fact
. You can't even greet people. Such a person
lacks the basics as a working professional
aren't you making a strange interpretation?
If you are thought of in that way,
can you enjoy your work?
Can you demonstrate your own abilities?
Ah, it's okay to be on this team.
It's okay to demonstrate my abilities.
Building a team where you can feel safe to exert your strength
is also important for member selection and recruitment activities.
Let's stop criticizing immediately.
"I'm glad you're on this team. Because you find issues for the team with your sharp observations. Next, could you use that perspective to find the good points in so-and-so?"
It's okay to be here.
Psychological safety is the foundation for exerting strength.
This is a place where you don't have to hide the feeling of "I want to press the Like button"
.
"Come on, let's press Like."
