[With Recipe] The Nostalgic Taste of Korean Snacks, Dalgona Coffee (달고나커피)
This time, I will introduce a recipe for Dalgona coffee, which became a hot topic on social media in 2020. Dalgona coffee is cute with its two-layered appearance. I think many people have tried making it while spending time at home.
Dalgona (달고나) is a Korean honeycomb toffee. I have memories of street stalls selling Dalgona when I was a child, and I often made and ate it with my friends. When I first heard the name "Dalgona coffee," I wondered if it contained real Dalgona, but I was convinced once I realized the color and taste are very similar to Dalgona. The sweet taste of the instant coffee and sugar meringue is quite addictive.
Recipe
Ingredients (for 2 servings)
1 tablespoon instant coffee, 1 tablespoon sugar, 1 tablespoon hot water, 200ml milk

Use your favorite instant coffee
1. Put the instant coffee, sugar, and hot water into a bowl.

2. Make a meringue using a whisk.

3. Whisk until it becomes a smooth cream.
(Using a hand mixer makes it easy, but with a whisk, you have to stir it 400 times, which is a running joke in Korea about how your arm will feel like it's going to fall off.)

4. Pour milk into a glass and top it with the coffee meringue.

Dalgona-flavored snacks
Dalgona-flavored snacks were also sold in Korea. The illustration on the package is exactly the scene of the street stalls where I used to make Dalgona in the past. The taste was also truly like Dalgona, making it a very nostalgic snack.
