Interesting Filming Locations from 'Double Patty': Jeolla-do Edition

The Korean film 'Double Patty' is a music road movie about Ji-hoon, a genius musician who cannot sing in front of others, and Min-soo, a music producer who has lost his luck, as they travel across Korea performing street concerts. Every location is so wonderful that many people who watch the movie will likely feel like going on a trip with Ji-hoon and Min-soo.

From the interesting filming locations, I will briefly introduce cities in Jeolla-do this time. Jeolla-do is a region said to have the most delicious food in all of Korea.

The Kongnamul Gukbap (bean sprout soup rice) that Ji-hoon and Min-soo eat after their first street performance in the movie is a specialty of Jeonju. The filming location, Hyundaiok, is a famous restaurant chain with branches in Seoul, such as Sinsa Garosu-gil and Gangnam Kyobo, and has expanded nationwide. Jeonju's Hanok Village is loved as a popular travel destination in Korea, with many Hanok guesthouses. Also, since Jeonju is famous for Bibimbap, I hope you will taste the authentic flavor when you travel there.

Yeosu is loved by many for its beautiful night sea, even within Jeolla-do. Enjoying nature while driving across Dolsan Bridge, just like in the movie scene, is a highlight of Yeosu.
Yeosu is rich in fresh and delicious seafood, and it is said that you cannot go wrong no matter which restaurant you enter. In the movie, there is a scene where Min-soo buys cup ramen and Gat-kimchi (mustard leaf kimchi) for the depressed Ji-hoon to eat. Gat-kimchi is a specialty of Yeosu. Mustard leaves harvested from Dolsan in Yeosu are popular for their fragrant aroma and tender texture.

In the movie 'A Taxi Driver', there is a scene where the German reporter and the Seoul taxi driver eat at a Gwangju taxi driver's house, and Gat-kimchi appears there as well. It is a heartwarming scene where the German reporter is surprised by the spiciness of the Gat-kimchi, which invites laughter, and it well depicts the deep affection of a Jeolla-do household.
Gwangju is a historical place where the May 18 Democratic Uprising, which is the theme of 'A Taxi Driver', took place, and in 'Double Patty', they also perform a street concert at the May 18 Democratic Plaza in Gwangju.
