Review/Impressions of FKA twigs' "Eusexua" MV & Song
Personally, I consider her the next-generation "Björk".
The new MV & song from the eccentric genius "FKA twigs" is so impactful and wonderful that
I'm writing down my thoughts, including a mini-review.
Furthermore, the song title "eusexua" is
a neologism coined by "FKA twigs" herself to describe a "state of being,"
referring to a temporary sense of transcendence experienced in daily life,
evoked by art, music, sex, and a sense of oneness.
It seems to express a
momentary euphoria, and it appears to point to the
"pinnacle of the human experience" that makes one feel bliss and infinite possibility,
where life is both a "practice" and a "way of being"
to know "eusexua."
As specific examples,
she cites "the euphoria just before orgasm,"
"the sense of oneness felt when kissing another person,"
"the immersive experience on the dance floor,"
and "the surge of creative inspiration."
◆FKA twigs - Eusexua
(※The main part (the song) starts around 1:00)
Eccentric, bewitching, artistic, and fantastic!!
Experimental, unique, unorthodox, cutting-edge, stimulating, profound, and overwhelming!
She has presented various new concepts regarding "ways of living," "sexuality," "songs," and "choreography"!!
While there is a difference between the first half, where eccentric choreography unfolds as she goes from "office siren" (attractive and mysterious office fashion) to "lingerie" that is almost naked, and the second half, which has a bewitching quality with many scenes of intertwining with a man,
the entire piece is cutting-edge, eccentric, and impactful.
Just as "FKA twigs'" hairstyle changes,
it feels like she is coming to break the "existing concepts" of what is generally considered "normal,"
and it feels like she has visualized free and new concepts
regarding "ways of living" and "sexuality,"
beautifully expressing the importance and preciousness of what FKA twigs calls "Eusexua"!
From the first half where she is manipulated by strings like a marionette,
the choreography, which is "not normal" in a good way,
is eccentric, cool, and fits the song perfectly.
The balance between parts that look primitive and parts that look modern,
and the balance of being strange and even slightly unsettling while still having artistry,
everything is strange and unorthodox, yet
cutting-edge, artistic, and truly wonderful & interesting!!
The ending doesn't necessarily look like a "dream sequence," but
just as the inside of the office becomes an incredible mess,
I wonder if it expresses the difference between those who know "Eusexua" and those who don't,
or perhaps those who can maintain their reason while knowing "Eusexua"
and those who have become too obsessed with "Eusexua" and have broken down as humans,
expressing the precariousness of people, but
honestly, it's too profound and I don't know the details lol.
Personally, I think it's best to take in the meaning of "Eusexua" I wrote about at the beginning and just accept it intuitively.
The music, like the MV,
is strange in a good way, yet cutting-edge and artistic.
It is skillfully constructed using sounds you might hear in an office, starting with the sound of typing on a keyboard.
The "first half" feels like a perfect balance of experimental/IDM elements reminiscent of "Autechre,"
the pop sensibility of "Madonna" during her heavy techno phase,
and abstract hip-hop and R&B elements.
The "second half," which starts at 3:40, is reminiscent of "Björk" with its
ethereal, cutting-edge, bewitching, and mysterious feel,
and it intersects with club music elements like techno/house/garage that remind one of "Underworld," "Orbital," and "LFO."
It's a composition that feels like two completely different songs, which is truly wonderful! Amazing!
She has released amazing and wonderful songs & works full of "genius" vibes before,
but seeing this MV, I can't help but have even higher expectations for the new album scheduled for release next year,
and as far as the video below goes, the live performance is just too wonderful, so I definitely want to see it.
◆On and FKA twigs present THE BODY IS ART | featuring Eusexua (live)
The dance, which felt more eccentric in the MV,
feels like it has been sublimated into true art in the live performance.
It goes without saying that it is stoic, sharp, and wonderful,
and everyone, including "FKA twigs," has incredible physicality.
With acrobatic parts and being lifted up,
they are using their bodies artistically,
making it creative, artistic, and very worth watching!
Combined with FKA twigs' overwhelming aura & charisma,
the result is cutting-edge, stylish, artistic, and cool,
to the point where it's breathtaking and impossible to look away from—it's beautiful & wonderful!
PS
Speaking of eccentric choreography, this also comes to mind,
so I'm attaching the live video of "Keyakizaka46's" "Eccentric"
from its first TV performance as a bonus.
As the song title suggests, it's very cool with lots of eccentric choreography!
Especially the part after the chorus (2:34~) where they take off their shoes is a masterpiece!
No matter how many times I watch it, the choreography expresses the song perfectly.
Perhaps because it was the first TV broadcast and there were many people who weren't Keyakizaka fans,
it's also funny to see the audience looking confused in front of such an unusual performance lol
