Perfectionism is not perfect at all, not even a little bit
When I interviewed a teacher about being late a while ago,
they said, "The more perfectionist a person is, the more likely they are to be late."
That left a huge impression on me.
You would think that a perfectionist would arrive on time.
However, because they are perfectionists, they never finish getting ready. And when they have a little extra time, they start doing chores, and since they won't stop until they're finished, they end up being late.
What's worse, if they are five minutes late, they feel it's no longer perfect, so they develop a mindset of, 'Well, I might as well be thirty minutes late,' which is really problematic.
Even if being late has this much of an impact, the impact in other areas is even more serious.
First, because they want to finish perfectly, they won't even start until the preparations are perfect.
Next, because they want to finish perfectly, they won't accept any output that isn't 100%. Therefore, they never even finish a draft. Delivery dates keep getting pushed back.
Ultimately, they start blaming themselves for not being able to do it perfectly, leading to an endless cycle of lower self-esteem.
AH!!! It's not perfect at all anymore!!!!
Perhaps the people reading this note are a little bit perfectionist.
While carrying a mysterious sense of duty that you must do things perfectly, you are fed up with yourself for not being able to do so, and "I'm really no good," aren't you thinking something like that?
Perfectionism is a "habit of thinking" that you have acquired while walking through life.
Therefore, it is quite difficult to fix it fundamentally.
Among those, the quickest way is to first try practicing submitting things at about 60% completion.
If you do that, you'll find that 60% is surprisingly enough to get by, or you might even get high praise.
"It's okay to have this level of completion."
Getting used to that level is what's important.
That is why the notes I have been posting recently have a self-imposed rule of writing everything in under 10 minutes! that I set for myself.
They are not perfect at all, but the comments I get on these imperfect notes are always warm.
Let us forgive ourselves for not being perfect.
