Recently, the reality of hiring and project selection practices, particularly in the IT industry, that say “no one over 40” has become a hot topic.
According to a technology news site, a majority of engineers in their 40s to 60s feel they have been “screened out due to age,” and it has been pointed out that this may be leading to a decline in organizational technical capabilities and a “hollowing out.” (TechTarget)
The risk of removing “experience”
In a survey of 600 veteran engineers in their 40s to 60s, nearly 60% responded that there is “screening based on age”. Furthermore, the result was that less than 5% of people answered that they “do not feel any age discrimination at all.” (

This is not just a story about individual work styles; it poses essential questions: Are companies really utilizing “valuable strength”? What will happen to future technology succession and education?
Not just the young — toward a future that balances experience and novelty
Of course, the potential of young talent and the importance of new perspectives are unshakable. However,
throwing away the great weapon of experience is a major loss for an organization.
The “tacit knowledge,” “troubleshooting ability,” and “team-building skills” possessed by senior engineers are often more valuable than just how to write code.
Things to keep in mind
Age is just a number.
Experience is not just the “past,” but a “guidepost for the future.”
By combining the respective strengths of the young and the veterans, true innovation should be born.
I want us all to create flexible and sustainable career paths. Your strengths are leading to someone else's growth!
