"Even if you can't work outside, you can still work"—A new way of working discovered by starting a skill-selling site
I am Kumataro Yokoyama, a training instructor and sign language interpreter.
While utilizing AI, I provide information for seniors and introduce books and gadgets.
Today, I would like to share my experience regarding selling your own skills.
"Is there any work I can do as I am now?"
Have you ever felt that way?
Currently, because I am caring for my mother,
I cannot work as a sign language interpreter outside as I used to.
I cannot stand on-site.
Traveling is also difficult.
There are also time constraints.
In such a situation,
I had to rethink the very meaning of "working."
■ Days focused on what I can do from home
So, what I chose was,
・Publishing on note
・Writing books
・And registering on a skill-selling site
These are all ways of working that can be completed entirely from home.
To be honest, I was skeptical at first.
"Will I really get any requests?"
"Does my skill have any value?"
It would be a lie to say I didn't have such anxieties.
■ The "reality" I understood after starting
I started using a skill-selling site last year.
As for the results—
It became more of a job than I had expected.
・People who requested once come back to request again
・Evaluations gradually accumulate
・Before I knew it, I reached a state of having consistent monthly orders
It is not what you would call "explosively popular."
However,
in the sense of "being stable and sustainable," I feel it is a very realistic way of working.I feel that way.
■ The essence of selling skills is simple
I learned something after trying it out.
That is,
that selling skills is very simple.
What is more important than special techniques is,
👉 "Are you fulfilling what the other person is looking for?"
That is all there is to it.
・What is the other person struggling with?
・What do they want solved?
・In what form would they be happy to receive it?
If you can face these questions squarely,
it will naturally lead to repeat business.
■ The realization that you can "have a job" even from home
When you are providing care,
your connection to society tends to become thin.
However,
what I felt through selling skills was,
the realization that "I am still connected to society."It was that.
・Being useful to someone
・Being appreciated
・Receiving compensation
Each one of these holds more significance than you might imagine.
■ To those starting now
If you are currently thinking,
"I don't have any special skills,"
I would like to tell you this.
Is that really true?
・Things you have done at work
・Things you can teach others
・Things you have experienced
All of those are valuable "skills."
And in this day and age,
there are places where you can connect with people who need them.
■ Conclusion
A skill-selling site
is not a place where you can make money like magic.
However,
"To be useful to someone through your own efforts and receive compensation for it"
This is a place where you can realize this simple truth,
even while working from home.
Even while caregiving.
Even if you cannot go outside.
Even if your time is limited.
There is still so much room to expand how you work.
If you have any kind of skill,
please do not be afraid to take that first step.
That one step
will create your new way of working.
