Regarding the relationship between senior cars and the long-term care insurance system

Do you know about senior cars (mobility scooters)? I think you may have seen elderly people riding them in town from time to time.

Surprisingly, senior cars are classified as electric wheelchairs. In other words, senior cars can be rented using the long-term care insurance system. If you are not confident in your driving, why not consult with a care manager about introducing a senior car? Even if it is an expensive item, you can use it at a low monthly cost if you use long-term care insurance.

By the way, wheelchairs and nursing care beds are eligible for rental for those with a long-term care level of 2 or higher (long-term care levels 2-5), but those with support needs or long-term care level 1 may also be able to use them if the necessity is recognized. Let's consult with a care manager first. By the way, based solely on my experience, it seems quite difficult for people with a long-term care level of 2 or higher to ride a senior car. The people who have introduced senior cars so far are either:

• people who were in poor condition when they applied for long-term care and were judged to be long-term care level 2 or higher, but are now thought to have improved to a support level

• people who are at a support level but had the necessity recognized by a care manager or doctor and rented one

Of course, I think there are people who are long-term care level 2 or higher who are renting senior cars, so please understand that this is only within the scope of my experience.

So, how much does a senior car cost? Looking at websites, the market price for purchasing seems to be 300,000 to 500,000 yen. For rentals, it seems to be around 2,000 yen (for those with a 10% co-payment). At this price, you might think, "Let's give it a try for now."

For those who are not confident in their driving but continue to drive a car for their daily life despite their anxiety, or for those who have parents who keep hitting their car and you want them to stop driving, but they won't stop because they say it's inconvenient without a car, why not recommend a senior car? It is fine even for those who have returned their driver's license. Senior cars do not require a license.
