How to Use Qualifications to Make Your Career Shine 5/6 - What Are the Benefits of Obtaining a Qualification?
I used to be a person with no self-confidence.
In my personality, my appearance, and my work. I think I lived my life in such a passive way that it would be unimaginable to the person I am today.
By the way, even now, there are actually many things I lack confidence in, and I am quite an unbalanced person, but I have become exceptionally good at pretending to be confident. Haha.
I think the catalyst that gradually changed me, a person with low self-esteem, was obtaining a qualification.
I believe that what you gain from obtaining a qualification is probably not just the "qualification" itself. At the very least, I believe I gained something much more valuable than that.
This is probably a "theory on what you gain from obtaining a qualification" that only I can write. I write this with confidence! Haha.
Please read it!
VOL. 5 What are the benefits of obtaining a qualification for yourself?
A six-part serial column thinking about careers through qualifications. The theme of the fifth installment is "the benefits of obtaining a qualification." It has been about 16 years since I actually obtained mine. What are the benefits I think of now that I have built my career?
The career comeback I wanted to achieve by obtaining a qualification
One of the reasons I aimed to obtain a qualification was that I was not satisfied with my place of employment or my profession. During my university days, I didn't have a clear idea of what I wanted to become, so I couldn't seriously face job hunting, and I started my life as a working adult with no motivation, just joining a company I happened to get into. I didn't find my work fun, I couldn't imagine myself shining in the future, and I was holding onto a vague, uneasy feeling. Even so, as a young girl who couldn't do anything, I didn't think I would succeed if I changed jobs immediately... I thought that taking a difficult qualification might be the shortest path to turning my life around, and with that feeling, I decided to steer toward obtaining a qualification.
What you gain is not knowledge, but a chance to restart
Obtaining a qualification aimed at the sluggish start of my career and its recovery. To conclude, I think my one-shot reversal has been successful so far. Although I spent more time studying for the qualification than I initially thought... (haha). I think obtaining a qualification is quite effective for a career restart. Regardless of the circumstances leading up to it, if you pass, your youth becomes a weapon, and even if you are older, it is less likely to be a disadvantage. The fact that you can stand on the same starting line regardless of when you start is a unique benefit of qualifications. By the way, in the case of a judicial scrivener, there are 11 subjects, and you end up studying a wide range of fields considerably. Whether that immediately helps in practical work, well, obviously it doesn't. It just means you have acquired the knowledge that serves as a prerequisite for practical work. From there, the study of applying it to work as a newcomer begins again. I feel that knowledge itself is not the big benefit gained from obtaining a qualification.
A qualification is proof that you are a person who can work steadily
What changes when you obtain a qualification might be how those around you see you and evaluate you. The opportunities to be told "That's amazing!" for having a qualification simply increase. Also, in the case of qualifications called professional services, no matter how young you are, you might be called "Sensei." Even if you are a bit foolish or frivolous (haha), people might think, "Despite how they look, they are actually smart." However, what you must not misunderstand is that there is often no feeling of respect in that "Sensei," and it is not uncommon to be looked at with cold, strict eyes, wondering, "How much work can you actually do?" I think what obtaining a qualification essentially proves is that the person is "someone who can continue to make steady efforts" and "someone who can achieve their goals."
A virtuous cycle born from gaining self-confidence
The biggest turning point in my life was obtaining a qualification. This is because I became able to have confidence in myself. The fact that my efforts led to results gave me tremendous confidence. To put it bluntly, it also acted like an "insurance policy" that I could manage even if I failed, which allowed me to purely challenge myself with things I was interested in. I originally had no confidence in myself, and I had even less confidence in my work. Through obtaining a qualification, I gained the confidence that I "could achieve it" and "had the minimum knowledge," which led to proactivity in my work. Perhaps for people with low self-esteem and no confidence, the degree to which obtaining a qualification influences their life is high. The major benefits I think of are: 1) being able to restart your career regardless of age or experience, 2) proof of your ability to achieve, and 3) self-confidence.
