The way to harmonize is always simple.
Harmony begins at the table.

🌿 This Morning's Murmurs Vol. 46
Harmonizing Meals — The Wisdom of 'Choshoku' —
Good morning.
I am Mie, a culinary artist.
A rainy morning in Omotesando.
The lingering resonance of yesterday's 'Eating Practice' session is still with me.
Yesterday, we all made the November 'Meguru Recipe' (Circulation Recipe).
The theme was 'Moisture'.
These two were particularly popular:
Burdock and carrot angel hair salad,
Sweet potato and onion miso soup.
After one bite, everyone said in unison,
'Delicious!' and 'Ah, how happy.'
In that moment, I could feel that their bodies were rejoicing.
I feel happy, too.
To eat is to live.
It is the sensation of the body, not the head, feeling that something is 'delicious'.
That is the beginning of a harmonizing meal.
In a book I read recently, there was a term called 'Choshoku' (Harmonizing Meals).
It is a Zen term that has existed for 1,400 years, and it is one of the 'Five Harmonizations' (Cho-goji) of harmonizing five things: 'Harmonizing Meals,' 'Harmonizing Sleep,' 'Harmonizing the Body,' 'Harmonizing Breath,' and 'Harmonizing the Mind.'
Eating in a way that suits you,
and choosing ingredients that align with the cycles of nature.
That is 'Choshoku'—a harmonizing meal.
What was written in that book
overlapped a great deal with what I
convey during my Eating Practice sessions.
The time spent in Eating Practice is
a place to harmonize your own body and mind.
And it is a path to harmonizing your own life.
Not just for the 'little witches' (students),
but for me as well, it is a grateful,
indispensable, and precious time.
⸻
When you are troubled or tired,
cook some delicious rice and make miso soup.
With just that, you can rebuild yourself once more.
To harmonize is
the simplest magic,
that anyone can do at any time.
⸻
Thank you to you, who read until the end again today.
🌿Today's Question
What kind of miso soup
is your favorite?
That miso soup will surely become a place that harmonizes you.
Please try making it with a little bit of intention.
May today also be a time of harmonization for you.
