[Self-Improvement Poem] Your Rival is Your Best Teacher
Competing with a rival every day
How can I defeat my rival?
What is the difference between my rival and me?
What are my strengths that my rival lacks?
That kind of thinking doesn't happen overnight
Day after day, thinking only of
how to beat my rival
And then,
as if waking from a dream,
you suddenly realize it
Because the other person does this, I will do that; if they come at me this way, I will counter that way—you rack your brains thinking of this and that. And gradually, you make progress.
It may seem like you are thinking for yourself, but in reality, you are being taught by the other person. It is their stimulation that forces you to use your own wisdom. Could it be said that you are being taught by your enemy?
Defeating them is not the only thing that matters. Without an enemy, there is no teaching. Consequently, there is no progress.
Therefore, I would rather acknowledge the conflict as it is, and seek a path where we can both progress and improve while teaching and learning from each other.
In other words, I want to seek a path of harmony while in conflict.
Without even realizing it,
you are being taught by your rival
Without even realizing it,
you are being helped to grow by your rival
Not competition, but co-running
Your rival is,
for you, the best teacher
