You Must Not Interfere with the Process When Mentoring
Good evening, everyone.
Thank you very much for watching among so many options.
Today, I will talk about 'You must not interfere with the process when mentoring'.
When asked, 'Um... how should I do this?'
If you are a mentor, this is a line you have heard at least once.
What would you do?
*️⃣'Instead of that way, this way is better.'
It seems like a kind response at first glance, but this'has the potential to hinder the other person's growth.'
That is what I will be talking about today.
In conclusion,
Rather than the method told by someone else,
'derive it yourself'
If you belong to an organization, you will have requests from superiors or external parties.
It is true that there was an era where you were evaluated if you just did the work as you were told.
However,
With the introduction of AI, tasks that anyone can do will almost entirely be done by AI.
If that happens,
In other words,
✳️[When looking to the future, interfering with the process during mentoring is a no-go]
The way to derive an answer should be different for everyone.
For example, interfering with the process is:
❌ 'I find it easier to do it this way, so try doing it like this'
❌ 'That procedure is inefficient, so you should stop doing it that way'
If you are told this,
↓↓↓
❌ 'The method was forced on me'
❌ 'Actually, this is hard for me to do...'
There is a possibility that this will create such negative effects.
That is precisely why
With these words, you can encourage the other person to derive the answer using their own method.
Advice is OK
The goal is
'to have them learn how to come up with an answer'
That said, there will still be times when you are consulted by the other person.
It is OK to give advice in the following cases.
There are two of them.
1️⃣ When the other person asks for advice by saying,'What do you think of this method?'2️⃣ When they ask for advice regarding
an answer they arrived at using their own method
❇️Since both are regarding 'what the other person derived,' the advice is legitimate.
What is important is
見守ってあげる事です》For example, if a boss says, "It's good to do it this way," most people will reply, "I see! Understood!"❌The boss may intend it as advice, but it may be perceived by the subordinate as "criticism."That is why
✅《こちらから不必要に声を掛ける必要はないのです》that is because the original purpose is
Believe in the other person's growth and watch over them.
The mentor's wish is
for them to eventually become "independent"
and thrive.
What is the happiest moment when mentoring?
It leads to this.
"I'm no longer needed for their guidance..."
This moment is sad, but
the "feeling of happiness" is greater than that.
That could be called the "mentor's wish."
I will leave you with these words at the end.
Words from the U.S. Army General, George S. Patton
Do not tell people how to do things.
Tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results.
Such excitement awaits you beyond mentoring.
Why don't you try experiencing that yourself?
I sincerely hope that my article will lead to your future growth.
To summarize
1️⃣Do not interfere with the process.
It is important to have them act based on their own ideas.
2️⃣Advice is okay for things they have derived themselves.
Until then, watch over them.
3️⃣ Finally"Let them become independent and surprise you."
Such excitement awaits you beyond mentoring.
That is all.
I will post again on 6/26.
You can also view past posts, so I would appreciate it if you could take a look.
Thank you very much for reading until the end.
