It's okay if you can't 'just sleep it off.' 3 ways for sensitive artists to lighten their hearts
Have you ever felt uneasy when someone told you, 'Just sleep it off and you'll forget'?
Of course, I know they don't mean any harm. But for me, with my HSP temperament, 'sleeping it off' was the hardest thing to do.
I would recall trivial mistakes from years ago or a single word someone said to me in the middle of the night or at random moments,as vividly as if it were yesterday...
In this article, I'd like to share the 'ways to protect your heart' that I've discovered through trial and error, so that we, the 'unable-to-forget tribe,' can spend our time with a little more ease.
Why can't we 'sleep it off'?
Having a rich sensibility means that your memory recording function is extremely high-performance.
For an artist, 'not forgetting' is a wonderful talent that allows you to apply the lingering resonance of sounds and the subtleties of the heart to your expression. But on the other hand, even negative memoriesare saved as vivid images.
But please, don't blame yourself for 'not being able to forget.' It is proof that you have taken each and every event to heart.
Instead of trying hard to forget, why not start by accepting your 'unable-to-forget self' just as you are?

3 recommended 'ways to protect your heart' when you remember something painful
1. Don't try to force yourself to forget (in a good way, 'give up')
The more you think 'I have to forget,' the more your brain desperately goes looking for that memory. So, why not just'positively give up' on forgetting? (laughs)
Acknowledge the existence of that memory for a moment by saying, 'Oh, it came up again. It must have been really impressive.' Just doing that will slightly ease the anxiety of 'I have to forget it quickly!'

2. Fill your 'brain's free space' with something else
This is a way to forcibly fill your brain's free space with other fun things.
Try a 'five senses time' where you savor the scents and textures right in front of you, or fill your room with your favorite music.
By the way, Ideliberately try to transcribe slightly complex songs by ear or clean up mindlesslyto ensure my brain has no room to return to the 'past'.
Please refer to this article for more on 'five senses time'.
3. A strategy meeting on 'what I would do if I were me now'
Instead of just getting stuck in a loop of regret, I also recommend thinking, 'What advice would I give to my past self if I were me now?'
"If I had my current experience, I could have retorted like this," or "I'm okay now, as I am." ...When you can think that way, those memories stop being just painful recollections and turn into 'little hints for the current you to do better.'

How to apply this to your artistic activities
That 'heart moved so strongly it couldn't be forgotten' becomes the energy for music that only you can create.
You don't have to force yourself to erase it with an eraser. While keeping a moderate distance and using it as a spice for your expression, the day will come when you realize you can feel it like a slightly distant landscape, thinking, 'I remember that happened.'
Learning 'how to live with it' rather than 'forgetting' might be what makes our hearts the most free.

It is precisely because you don't forget that you are who you are today.
You might not be able to become someone who is good at forgetting.
But in return, you will surely become an artist with depth who can understand the pain of others.
Instead of pushing yourself to forget and cornering yourself, why not change how you accept things a little and lighten your heart one step at a time together?
