PAST LIVES Reunion

I watched it. (Streaming on Netflix) It was amazing!!

First of all, I have a personal preference for A24 films. I loved the atmosphere from the very first moment.

This film was a hot topic when it was released, and I really, really wanted to see it, but I couldn't make it. I never expected it to be on Netflix, so I was truly happy.

It is based in America and South Korea. The two leads are of Korean descent, but given their features, they likely have roots there while being active in the West.

It was my first love story in a while. It's not a story with the typical Korean drama structure of introduction, development, twist, and conclusion, or one where incidents occur along the way. If anything, it feels like a French film—reading between the lines, taking long pauses, and having poetic dialogue.

No truly breathtaking incidents occur. For a moment, it had a flow similar to the famous work 'One Day,' but since that one has a very shocking ending, you could say they are complete opposites.

Anyway. It's a film that progresses while hiding indescribable emotions behind sparse dialogue. Men might find it boring, though.

I caught glimpses of the harshness of military service and the unique Korean background regarding marrying into a family as an only son. It seemed that the language somewhat reflects that culture. Unlike the way of thinking in English-speaking countries, I felt that Korea has a sense of 'reading between the lines' that is somewhat similar to Japan.

The final scene between the two leads is heartbreaking. The heroine Nora's sophisticated makeup and outfits were also lovely. A quiet, mature love story.

If you have the chance, definitely watch it!!
