Finding the 'Just Right' Distance with AI
— A story about how you don't have to leave everything to AI right away
Hello!
How are you all handling your relationship with AI?
There are so many ways to use it, from just searching to being a power user, and I'm always learning so much from everyone!
Please teach me more! |・ω・*) peek
For those who haven't really used it yet,
you might be thinking, 'I know generative AI is convenient, but I'm uneasy about leaving everything to it...'
While empathizing with those wavering feelings, I'd like to introduce the concept of “Gradual AI-First” that I practice in the field.
1. Start small: First, choose the 'tedious tasks that are easy to replace'
🔖 Rules
① Repetitive tasks
② Tasks requiring almost no judgment
③ Tasks that are easy to recover from if they fail
My 'first step'
Transcribing meeting minutes
Converting job posting formats
Entrusting AI with areas where 'you won't die without it, but it's incredibly easy if you have it' significantly lowers the psychological hurdle.
2. Coexistence phase: Polishing while 'poking' the AI
Imagine humans making only 30% of the edits to the draft the AI produces.
Interview summaries → Adding temperature and behind-the-scenes stories
Drafting recommendation letters → Refining the nuances of the applicant's motivation
The distance feels comfortable when you think of it not as 'AI = perfect,' but as a collaboration partner.
3. Expansion phase: Once data accumulates, it becomes a 'proposal partner'
After about half a year of operation, the 'company-specific style' learned by the AI accumulates.
Tagging talent data → Proactively suggesting matching candidates
KPI dashboard → Reminding you of the next action
Before you know it, AI becomes a reliable partner that gently offers up 'what to do next'.
4. What is the 'final 10%' that humans handle?
Areas where even AI struggles and why humans excel: Sense of values and cultural fit, nuances of atmosphere and silence in interviews, long-term career planning for candidates, personal experience, empathy, and encouragement, sudden emotional care, facial expressions, timing, and tone of voice.
AI shapes the 'form,' and humans breathe in the 'warmth.'
I feel that this division of labor is the most natural.
5. Summary: 3 Rules for Engaging with AI
First, try delegating just one task.
Critique the draft to polish it.
Promote it to a proposal role once data has accumulated.
You don't have to dump everything on AI all at once; by trying to divide roles little by little, you will find the 'just right distance' that suits both you and your team.
If you're wondering, 'How should I get along with AI?', please remember these steps.
I would be happy if you could share your thoughts in the comments after trying it out. Likes are also very welcome♡
I'll be sure to visit and 'like' your posts back.
