Fate/strange Fake is just so Ryohgo Narita
I'm a casual Type-Moon fan who got hooked on the Fate anime series starting with Zero, and I only watch new releases if they catch my interest; I didn't even know Fake had started.
During the first hour, which I watched thinking it was just another Fate show, I felt like there were so many characters running around, and then I realized the original author was Ryohgo Narita and everything clicked.
I love Ryohgo Narita.
Baccano! and Durarara!! taught me the fun of ensemble dramas when I was in middle school. It's not so much any specific work, but the structure of the stories he writes as a whole that I love. I love them so much that even though I haven't read the original Fate/strange Fake, I can sort of guess how things will unfold.
Knowing Ryohgo Narita, I'm sure it will be something like:
100 characters all acting on their own agendas and beliefs,
all happening to run into each other in the same place,
with everyone being unexpected to one another,
turning into a chaotic mess where you wonder who's going to clean this up!?
and though it looks like things settled down somehow,
no one's hopes are fulfilled in a way that satisfies them,
yet it's by no means the worst possible ending,
to the point where some people might even think they got lucky,
with everyone settling for a compromise while still suffering slight losses.
I mean, that's the kind of story I think it is.
Or rather, that's the kind of story I want to see. Please show it to me.
I said 100 characters, but if I counted properly at the end, wouldn't it exceed 100?
After all, I suspect Ryohgo Narita believes that the more characters a story has, the more interesting it is. Yes, it is interesting. I love it.
I love them all: the person who loses out because they're too earnest, the person who is incredibly cheerful but a bit unhinged, the person who is fed up with the world, the person who seems like a good guy but is actually bad, the person who seems like a bad guy but is actually good, the non-human life forms, the guy who looks like the 'strongest' no matter how you slice it, the guy who doesn't get involved in the main plot, the guy who has a bird's-eye view of everything, and the guy who has a bird's-eye view of everything from an even higher vantage point.
Even just from a quick look, starting with the usual King of Heroes, the characters seem to have a high 'status' in many ways, so I can't stop being excited.
Because the more characters there are, the more interesting it is, and the stronger the characters are, the more interesting it is.
Everyone, go watch Fate/strange Fake!
