Montessori at Home | The Basics of Creating an Environment Without Specialized Materials

“I’m interested in Montessori, but there are no schools or classes nearby…”
Actually, many people have this concern.

But don’t worry.
Montessori education is not something that can only be done with “specialized materials.”
I would like to share how you can incorporate Montessori education at home,
which is something you can only do because it is your own home.💁‍♀️

First, what I want you to know is that
“Montessori education at home has different goals and environments than what is done in schools or classrooms.”

And one more thing.
You do not need to purchase materials for home Montessori.

Each Montessori material has a specific purpose,
and they are meant to be given to the child after the adult has learned how to use them (how to present them) and practiced.
Furthermore, they are expensive,
and it is actually common for the sensitive period to pass
without them ever being used after purchase.

That is why I do not believe it is a good idea to purchase materials when there is such a risk.

So, what should you do instead?

The answer is very simple:
Prepare an environment where the child can do things by themselves.
Even just doing this is enough to establish a wonderful home Montessori practice.✨

For example...

• Place a step stool in the washroom so they can wash their hands and brush their teeth by themselves

• Organize the closet at the child’s eye level so they can choose their own clothes

• Make the storage area for toys easy to understand so they can put them back without adult help

Suchefforts to increase the things a child can do by themselves in daily lifeare very important.🍀

Children learn by absorbing from daily life itself—by seeing, hearing, and touching.
Rather than creating a special environment,
please try to first set up a system at home where they can “do it themselves” without strain.
